This from Lucy Coats, whose pupdate about her darling teckel puppy Sophy brightened our Saturday night guest post a week and a half ago:

I thought that you (and the forum who were so kind about her pupdate) should know that I lost my beloved Sophy teckel yesterday. She fell into some water and though we searched for her for hours it was by then too late. She could not get out and so drowned before we found her. We buried her last night with flowers and tears and love and the last late roses under the big chestnut tree in the garden beside our other 3 who rest there. The earth seems to me just now a cold dark place for one who had such a great and loving heart and such a brave and adventurous spirit. The house and garden also seem horridly quiet without the sound of her shrill bird chasing puppy bark. I am as you can imagine devastated and heartbroken and cannot seem to do anything (including writing this), without weeping. Seven months was much too short a life but I feel privileged to have shared the last part of it with her. She was my 'writer's dog' and her empty little red bed leaves a gaping teckel sized hole in my life and my office.
