If you've come to the end of a long week and feel like sharing something silly, or funny, or perhaps news of the bungee jumping championship you're going to be taking part in over the weekend, then this thread is for you...

Oh very nice! Do you get to dress up in appropriate costumes for this?

I'm off to the 'Squash and Pumpkin Day' here tomorrow. Self, husband, plus brother & sister in law - we're all going to squash together... Smile

And I suppose I ought to get in some giveaways, in case of trick-or-treaters tomorrow evening. It's only been about 10 - 15 years since children started doing that in the UK. Much better than going round asking for 'a penny for the Guy' though, as used to be the case.

No, though that would have been fun! It was actually for a music history class. The students had a blast.

Had a long tiring week, but tomorrow I'm going to carve up a jack-o-lantern! We never get a lot of trick-or-treaters, but since many of the kids in the neighborhood know me from my morning hurtles I feel the need to have candy to hand out.

It has been a donkey's years since anyone has come to my house ... so I always get treats I'm willing to eat myself.

However, a friend has turned five in the last year and there is a slight chance she might show up (likely while I am at the library) and I am suddenly thinking ... did I get something gluten and dairy free? Argh!

Tomorrow will be filled with reading about St. Ignatius until it's time for the Halloween party. Sunday I get to go to Bush Gardens as a belated birthday present. Thank goodness the Halloween festivities are extended an extra day!

This is goodnight and not goodbye.

Mmm this friday? Oh lets see... studying and some more studying and studying.
But hopefully bunches of reading after all that. Even if it was just one book that would suffice. And at the end of the day, movie night! Then I can read before I go to bed, with a very large cup of tea.

My show opens tonight!

I'm not SM/AD this time, but the show is Pirates of Penzance.... one of my favorite G&Ss. We've got some really good leads, and a very (very) full stage. 60 some-odd people, and because the director decided to set it in Anabellum, GA, all the women are in hoop skirts for the first act.

The girls wearing the hoop skirts have gotten better at moving in them.... they aren't flashing the audience quite as much as they were when we first put them in costume (they'd been wearing the hoops for a while before first dress, but they move rather differently with the dress over them). I'm not entirely sure how they all fit on the stage, though... probably breaking the laws of physics somewhere!

On fridays I usually have riding, todays lesson was fantastic—and since my teachers arena was basically a puddle we rode in the field, which made it even better.

When I was working on my masters in library science, I had the thought that it would have made more sense to study libraries and reference books etc. before doing all that under-graduate research rather than after. I had had no idea that there was so much one could learn from arcane things like card catalogs ... ah that dates me!

Hearing all these folks talking on the radio about the first internet message, 40 years ago, (the year I finished my under-graduate degree) makes my head spin. Good luck with the research and the writing of papers.

Today I spent the morning stapling fake pine garland to the walls of the exhibit; burned my hand (not badly) on some C-7 bulbs; helped lay some vinyl graphics; and watched my intern stick glitter onto some 5' diameter styrofoam snowflakes. My job is almost never boring.

I work at the Children's Museum here in Indianapolis. We are, so we claim, the largest children's museum in the world. Smile

Is the big Chihuly sculpture a permanent exhibit?

Yes--I can't even imagine how we'd begin to de-install that. Smile Generally in museums, even "permanent" means 10-15 years, but honestly Fireworks is such an iconic piece (and so custom-designed to our space) that I don't think it's going anywhere unless the building's demolished... Have you seen it in person? It's pretty spectacular.

Do not want to go way off topic here, but, did you see Night of the Museum? Did you like it? Just curious.

Yes, I have. And admired it greatly. My parents live in Indianapolis, and I'm a big Chihuly fan.

I actually have NOT seen Night at the Museum, but I hear it's a lot of fun! Once you've spent a lot of time wandering around museums and collections storage after hours, that all seems just a little more plausible. Smile

Glad you liked it, Shalea! It's one of 2 Chihulys on public display (that I know of) in Indianapolis; the other is a good deal smaller. Smile It's on IUPUI campus, in the medical students' building, and it's sort of a bunch of round blobs in a coil reminiscent of DNA's helix. If you're a fan of his work it's worth checking out, if you can brave parking on campus next time you're in Indy.

Sure, I'd watch it--I just don't watch movies in the theatre much, and my netflix queue is presently clogged with my usual hodgepodge of fantasy/scifi/foreign/documentaries... But we show it in our theatre here in the museum now and then, eventually I'll catch it!

When I was in 8th grade, I was on a school team of Odyssey of the Mind (problem solving competitions: http://www.odysseyofthemind.com/) and we got to spend the night at the Louisville Science Center (called something else then) as a learning experience. My team slept in the sound room by the whisper dishes (so we could whisper across the room to eachother). My brother's team got to sleep by the mummies (the boys loved it and the girls acted scared the whole time). The experience was unforgettable and fantastic.
