On another matter, does all this dress-up-at-the-signing talk mean I have to come with an attractive devil costume (never my strong point)or is that only for dogs and can I come 'au naturel'(this means clothed in my case. Definitely clothed). Travelling into London by train from the Midlands with horns on may get me arrested...but if that's how it has to be... Wink

Now this could be interesting, devils on two legs and four arriving from all sides while AJLR makes a chilly journey up from Kent?

AJLR is going to be making a very warm and fully clothed journey up from Kent!!

OK--I've looked in the dress up box. No horns--only Minnie Mouse ears--SO not attractive on a 47yr old woman. Can I get away with just bringing a box of my Utterly Swoony Raspberry Deeply Darkly Chocolate Death Brownies instead? Surprised To share--obviously! I've just realised what a Killer Zebra is btw--duh!!

How about some (small) Minnie Mouse ears made from USRDDCDBs? That way you'd only be wearing them on the journey into London...? Smile

Would you WANT to eat previously worn MM ears made from USRDDCDBs? I feel they might be marginally warm and sticky--but not in a good way Wink

Well, according to the all-knowing wikipedia, it's a mixture of corn and lima beans...

So Lima beans are Butter beans? I actually like butter beans - hot and buttery, with black pepper (well, I like butter and black pepper with a LOT of things lol)
so add me to the "not gross" heap! Maybe we need a poll????

On the broccoli thing--how could anyone resist freshly picked purple sprouting broccoli with either loads of melted butter and freshly ground salt and pepper OR, alternatively, with lightly browned hazelnuts with a hazelnut oil, dijon and lemon juice dressing. I'll have to come down on the side of the beans too--just waiting to see how the speckeldy borlotti pods drying in the greenhouse pan out... <sigh> What IS it about this forum and food? Am now permanently drooling. SO bad for sticking up the keyboard...Wink

If one is a being a purist with cinnamon rolls one can skip the icing, but they really benefit (in my opinion!) from a more-than-generous slather with cream-cheese icing which is rather whiter in color than that in the picture.

I *think* Lima beans are more like broad beans than butter beans - I am planning to use frozen broad beans in my recipe. Not sure if I have any frozen sweetcorn, which would certainly be nicer than tinned.

Hmmmm, do I think pasta for the carbohydrate? And I think I have a bit of cauliflower that wants using, so I might just break that into florets and add it....

Why is my wretched Husband not due home for another hour and fifteen minutes?

If you want proper Sunshine's cinnamon rolls, the icing is a *thinnish* basic buttercream with either brown or white sugar OR you half-crunch up sugar lumps and roll them up in the dough with the cinnamon etc. Although I think this latter might be a little hard to get across in cardboard. :)

Cinnamon rolls as big as your head ARE sinful, but they also DO have SOME food value. They are NOT so sweet they make your teeth hurt all the way up through your brain, you know?

I'm having a challenge with the email notifications about "unread" items. It isn't always accurate (some I have seen) and they are swamping my mail box. Also, when I go to the list of topics, it shows (numerous) unread messages, many or which I've looked at.

Of course there IS the fact that this forum is so active that while I'm looking at previously unread messages, many new ones come in!

If I check Robin's blog site regularly, will that keep me up to date on her contributions?

I don't like octopus as sushi (yick - super rubbery) but cooked! Oh yum. I'll have to gather a few recipes together for you. In wine and tomato sauce with oregano, stewed in its own juices, cleaned and served as a salad with oil and vinegar! I melt into a puddle of bliss. Chargrilled! Even boiled up and cooked with macaroni it's fairly fantastic. Octopus is one of my all-time favourite foods.

Sorry, Susan. Smile It's not that I don't like the taste of cephalopods--I used to quite enjoy squid! But it's quite honestly a personal thing. Once I discovered firsthand how genuinely intelligent octopi (and squids and cuttlefish) are, the idea of eating them became kind of repellent to me. I've met cows, sheep, chickens and pigs before and haven't had this same reaction, so call me a moral relativist if you like. But there's smart and SMART, and octopi are smart. Ergo, I don't eat 'em.

Chambered nautiluses, though? Dumber than paint. The dunces of Order Cephalopodia. I'd eat 'em like popcorn if I could. Smile

(Not really. Too much work to get 'em out of those shells.)

Please, no more pictures of cinnamon rolls! I'm a recently diagnosed coeliac and it's breakfast time - I'm not sure I can take much more! Smile

You moral relativist you! Smile

But, joking aside, although I personally decide food on a yuck /love factor on instinct and don't bring my morals to the table, I perfectly understand and respect others' food preferences. Personally I could make quite a case for the sensitivities and intelligence of plants, but I still eat 'em most happily. Call me a morally lax glutton Smile

I love this song, by the Arrogant Worms. It amuses me to no end... It seems somewhat relevant to the discussion about eating things which are intelligent.

"The center of every man's existence is a dream. Death, disease, insanity, are merely material accidents, like a toothache or a twisted ankle. That these brutal forces always besiege and often capture the citadel does not prove that they are the citadel."

Arrogant Worms are awesome. Very Happy So many good songs with hilarious lyrics that seem ridiculous... but sometimes can really make you think. My mom wants to play "History Is Made By Stupid People" for the history professor at the college where she teaches, but I don't think she's done so yet.
