PS: Speaking of *smell*, try feeding/cooking *tripe.* **How** much do you love your dogs--? Smile

I saw canned tripe at the dog food store the other day. I decided my guys could probably live without it . . Smile

Urk. When I lived in Chicago I lived in a largely Guatemalan neighborhood; I never got used to seeing great piles of menudo blanco in the refrigerated section of Morse Fruit and Meat... I don't generally eat organ meat, but I found tripe particularly horrifying for some reason.

I apologise for being a wet blanket but let's not get totally carried away. I've already said I love bullies--and Dobermanns--and I've known some sweetheart Rotties. And Alsatians. Etc. BUT. These are also dogs with STRONG aggressive/protective/guardian/territorial instincts and there are bad ones like there are bad *anything.* ONe of the scariest dogs in this town is some kind of Staffie cross.

Their other pit bull IS kinda scary....

But the therapy dog is funny. I first met him when my sister brought him into our back yard. Not having my scooter handy, I was on my hands and knees. The dog looked me over, looked puzzled.... and got down gown on his elbows and knees and approached, wagging his tail.

That's ADORABLE. But as southdowner says, who should know, one of bullies' greatest virtues is their sense of humour. Certainly the one I met first had a gigantic sense of humour and I'm glad to know it's general to the breed.

. . . Not to mention creative thinking. :) My imagination is spinning out of control wondering if his/her work as a therapy dog meant he/she was more likely to recognise the differently abled. . . .

I'm more of a cat person, so I'd never expected anything like that.
I think he's part German Shepherd too. He's got a pit bull body and this enormous heavy-jawed head. He looks like he could bite your arm off, but despite having been through horrible abuse he's a sweetie.

My sister has said he does seem to know when he has to be extra-gentle with someone. Now he's getting old, so we have to be extra-gentle with him. ;(

(OT: Every time I hear the term "differently abled" I think I ought to be able to fly or teleport or something. Wink)

Awwwwwww. :)

As a wet knee jerk liberal I don't know what I should say. What do you prefer (to differently abled)? I've always thought the phrase 'differently abled' was a fairly tongue in cheek riff on the whole PC issue about it. But I'm still looking on from the outside.

I don't really mind whatever as long as it's meant well. (although "crippled" is a big turn-off.) But I always get a chuckle out of it, and think there must be a story in there...

Melissa, have you seen "Wheelchair Werewolf"? It's still one of my absolute favorite Youtube videos...
