I wondered if you'd manage to post yourself! Ha!)

YOu mean this *perfect dog* had her puppies where you WANTED her to have her puppies? How did you manage THAT? All the bitches I've known, you make them lovely nests somewhere PRACTICAL and they have their puppies . . . in the middle of your bed. In the closet all over your shoes. In a stall with the HORSE still IN it. . . . And furthermore she had them at a REASONABLE HOUR? You should wake up at 4 am or something because of Weird Stuff going on in the bed next to you . . .

Are you going to KEEP ONE? Didn't you get into this originally because you wanted another Belle to train? Didn't you go back to her breeder for the dad? Does the breeder want a puppy?

Have you had any SLEEP yet? :)

They are seriously CUTE! I thought the first two pictures were adorable, but you clearly saved the best for the blog.

So how did shearing go? Are you going to keep one/all of the puppies?

(And I was going to suggest "Beau" as a name for one of the boys, given as it's the mirror of "Belle" and all, but now that I'm here and reminded of Con's arch-enemy, I'm conflicted...)

Isn't Belle amazing? Such a collie work ethic - work until 10 minutes before pups due, go to appointed place and immediately produce son and heir; what happened to 6 months paid leave? Very Happy

... you'll give the rest of us a bad name - I've had puppies born in a car on the way to the vets, puppies stuck half in half out (and backwards), and of course the luxurious whelping box hand made for me (Tallis actually *g*) which made Tallis clamp shut, and since I couldn't cope with the worry, she DID have her puppies on my bed... Razz

hugs to Belle - she sounds as if she's going to be a wonderful mum Smile

I don't know.... she was in labour... I told her to go into a nice darkish den-like place and then I sat there with her (and held her paw... LOL). Didn't seem odd at the time! (But I was VERY GLAD she didn't have them on my bed!!)
I could tell you a theory about timing of labour and the level of trust with the human....
And I did wake up at 4 am. And decided that further sleep was useless so got up. Having the squawking going on was enough Weird Stuff. Wink

YES I am keeping one (or two). The aim of this whole business was to have more minds to subvert train for trialling competition now that I know more than I did when I started with Belle. I went back to the place where Belle came from to find her a suitable match. (They don't need any more puppies!!!)
Sleep. Hmmm. Well I did get a little more last night. Being a light sleeper with squeaking pups and a bitch that needs to exit the room RIGHT NOW meant I didn't get as much as I really needed. (I don't have kids - I'm inexperienced... haha) Fingers crossed for tonight.

LOL That's a pretty good summing up of what happened. I was told that Belle was rather put out(to put it mildly) that her bed was not in its usual place (it was airing in the sun!)

She has surprised me at her first-time round mothering ability. She is so attentive to them. They are scrupulously clean. Feeding them with no problems. It's not that I expected trouble - although I wouldn't have been surprised if she had shown more confusion with the situation. There were a couple of times however, right after they were born, that she looked at them and the look on her face was as if she was thinking "WHAT THE FRELL ARE THEY????" LOL

And yeah. I squee over the puppy toes too. It is amazing watching how fast they grow. Already their paws and legs are bulking up and looking sturdier.

There will be more pictures - later. Smile

I had wondered if puppies were happening at your house. . . yay Belle, great job, six beautiful black and white babies! And nicely delivered, too. She's very considerate as well as being a good mother.

Puppy squeeeeeee! I love puppies. Unfortunately, they grow up into dogs, of which I am less fond. I don't have the patience for dogs. They need to be walked every day twice a day. On the other hand, they do make great pillows. Wink

Cats aren't very good as pillows, but they do excellent afghans. And don't need walks. Here at this house I am moving to (in stages) I am keeping all three inside, for the sake of the birds. This is probably going to be possible because they are all adult now, though every now and then they go on a "thunderkitty" rampage around the house, up the stairs, practically off the ceiling. I was trying to keep them indoors at the old house, but at the point where I had two adolescent one-year-olds, the energy level was just TOO MUCH. Fortunately the only thing they seem to be very good at hunting is indoor flies bumbling on windowpanes.

This is the painted bunting that occasionally turns up at the feeder, the chief reason I don't want to add predators to the yard.
