Yikes!!!
We nearly had a flat Robin. That is definitely NOT a good thing.

The All-Stars were pink, however. Has anyone ever been frightened of someone wearing pink All-Stars?

Possibly not. I did frighten someone wearing pink All-Stars the other day, does that count? Smile It was one of my students, she came up after class to tell me how terrified she is about the upcoming exam, and all I could think was, "She's got Robin's SHOES!"

It's never fun when you almost end up in the ditch/hedgerow/gutter/ side of a rocky cutting.
Although it can be amusing (when one is far enough back) to watch someone else be on the wrong side of the road with oncoming traffic, in town. This happened the other day. I don't think they were from around here.... *g*

Re the pink All-Stars - you never know. He might have nightmares about these after being beaten up as a kid by someone wearing Pink All-Stars. Combined with the slavering Hellhounds under each arm and he may have abandoned his vehicle and run in mad terror. Fatally underestimating the speed of two fit Lurchers.... muahahahaha

Oh. Dear.

Well, if the Story Council doesn't send you sequels, at least we know most of your rants will have sequels. Very Happy (Obviously the rants come from a different department.)

Yikes indeed. Glad you are okay!!! No squishing Robin. Not allowed. Or else I'd have to come over there and pretend to be scary... I do know karate, and can flip people, occasionally, if I must. I may be small, but I've got a great big dictionary and some karate-ness. So intimidating. Clearly. Yeah right. Smile

Aiyah! That would have scared me to death! I'm so glad you and the hellhounds are safe, and it seems Wolfgang is okay, too. Whew!

As for the Sunshine sequel seekers, too many people don't seem to comprehend the joy of a novel that is complete in itself. I have actually stopped reading many of the multi-volume series that never seem to end. I want a complete story, darn it! And yours are wonderful. They're ... filling. They "feel" substantial in one's mind. I feel satisfied at the endings, and I know I can always go back and start all over again. I love the different worlds and people you've created, and I'm satisfied to reread those books until you've written the next one and I can add it to my stack of wonderful McKinley reads.

Adrenalin shakes are awful. Much sympathy.

Late mention, but I've enjoyed your flower pictures very much. I've been photographing our cactus flowers this past month (which led to my own adrenalin shakes yesterday when I headed for a patch of shade only to find it occupied by something that buzzed at me. Not nearly as bad as a truck in the middle of a blind corner, as there was room to dance backwards on the trail.)

This is my big fear about ever having to drive in the UK or Australia or anywhere people drive on the left (Japan too, I think). If 40-year-old habit took over, I would be the fool driving into oncoming traffic. Smile

Hehehe the tricky part is usually when you are turning across the traffic. The mantra I had to keep telling myself whilst in Europe was: "The driver is always in the middle of the road" ... !!

::Shudders in sympathy:: Good job you for having the right immediate reaction, and congratulations on not getting creamed. You have mentioned the narrow lanes and the hedgerows before; learning to avoid these encounters must be a necessary survival skill for local residents. Did driving in Maine give you a head start in this? I can attest to the narrow roads and blind corners, if not the hedgerows, in Massachusetts and New Hampshire.

Aargh aargh aargh. My current frustration is with Teddy's puppy acne. I wash his face after every meal, but using anything topical is probematic because he can lick it off. ::Groans:: But here's a picture of the boy anyway:

It's tricky enough walking across the road. The painted reminders to LOOK BOTH WAYS before stepping off the curb are useful for tourist preservation!

I'm so glad you were able to avoid a crash, and even gladder that the hellhounds were lying down. If they hadn't been, they would have been tossed around. Ouf!

You said to post pictures of my garden. I'm going to try to do so here. If they are too big, moderators, feel free to zap them.

Good gracious, Robin!!!

Glad you both reacted quickly enough, and the hellhounds are good about lying down in the car. Crossing ferrets that the ME doesn't make you pay for the adrenaline. :(

And even if you had ended up in a body cast, you could have used your mind control to get the mods to make a post here. Probably easier than poking fingers out of plaster to peck at the keyboard.

Hedgerow-rage? We-were-nearly-squished-and-it-was-your-stupid-fault-rage? Either way, I'm so glad things were recoverable even though it was yet another adrenaline spike that you didn't need. Virtual hugs and supportive thoughts coming your way. What a pillock of a lorry driver.

...too many people don't seem to comprehend the joy of a novel that is complete in itself.

Absolutely! I went through a period of rebellion when all I could find were trilogies (and now it's heptalogies) instead of stand alone stories. I have ceased to fight that hopeless battle but it is still a pleasure to read a novel that is complete in itself.

Oh, **yikes**, you mean a rattlesnake? Or am I being dim? We had copperheads in Maine, but they were pretty easily avoidable. Rattlesnakes *scare* me silly.

PS: Cactus flowers? Have you posted them anywhere? I had a few cactus in a sink in the old house; only one left now, but I eye them at garden centres. . . .

While you're jet lagged it's a bit of a nightmare--driving your hired car out of Heathrow. But remember that the DRIVER is on the other side of the CAR: your relationship with the road is pretty familiar. When I moved over here the only time it got nasty was on roundabouts. . . . :) (I had a lot MORE trouble adjusting to the two-way roads that are only one lane wide.)

I have no idea! I remember when my parents told me that we were migrating here - I looked up ALL the toxic critters and objected strongly. Fortunately, they ignored me. My only consolation at the time was that we were too far south to be attacked by a Sydney funnel web spider.

We've had a spate of finding redbacks lately. I don't think anyone's died recently from redback bites though.
