Thank you, Jmeadows, I most certainly will. Given my track record with computers, you'll probably be hearing from me soon.

Hello, I'm Cinnamuffins* and I like footnotes. Wait, wrong introduction...
I've been reading Robin's books for, oh, two decades or so, since I discovered the Hero and the Crown when I was about twelve. I then hunted for the Blue Sword and Beauty and the Door in the Hedge, followed by the others as they came out. And then I discovered the blog a couple of months ago...
I've been peeking in at this forum now and then, and occasionally thinking, "Oh, I should register so I can post about ____**." And those incidents finally reached critical mass, I guess.
I don't know how often I'll have anything to say. It's likely to be intermittent, given everything else in my life***.

^we=I, with two-year-old "helping". Yes, the kitchen is still standing. The strong odor of garlic is not her fault, either; it developed later, when the seven-year-old knocked over the ketchup, which toppled the minced-garlic-in-oil, which went smash all over the ceramic tile. I'm always amazed at how far little bits of glass can skid on a really hard surface!
**_____ being things like "Helen of Kirconnel," which I didn't recognize from the lines in Spindle's End, but knew immediately when I read all the words, because I too had the disc Flight of the Green Linnet that someone mentioned.
*** Everything else being, most prominently, homeschooling my kids; our year won't end until it's almost time to start the new one in August, because we took a break at an odd time last fall while we were moving. Also writing^^, which I never have enough time for, and all the other things that catch my ever-wandering attention.
^^Yes, fiction. No, it never sells. Sigh. Someday...

Hello everyone. I'm Mismatched Socks, and I have a confession to make-- despite the fact that I love books (particularly McKinley books), play the violin, sing, and more than dabble in fiber-crafts (primarily weaving, although I do some knitting, sewing and, recently, spinning also) I have been lurking (reading the blog regularly and the forum irregularly) for. . . a long time. My excuse is shyness, and perhaps a lesser degree of comfort with the internet than one would expect from a twenty-year-old American college student. This is my very first forum, and I'm rather excited.
I was inspired to finally join the conversation by the Pegasus ARC contest--and the calls to lurkers that came with it-- although I didn't actually enter, because I didn't want to win (I'm going to need something as wonderful as Pegasus in November--because it'll be November). However, I just love the idea of sharing favorite bits, so I may just stick mine on the end of that thread anyway--unless somebody's got an idea for a better place to put it.
Oh, and my socks don't match. Ever.

Hi Everyone
I guess I went about this kinda backward, cos I registered in order to post a recipe on the Sunshine contest (I won, I WON, sorry, not boasting, I never win ANYTHING!) and this is the first time I've properly posted.
I've been reading McKinley for a couple of years, but I met Sunshine two christmases ago, and remember finishing it and immediately returning to the first page to start again (My sister unfortunately came and reclaimed it before I got all the way through again. Her argument was that it was HER book, she hadn't read it, and I'd already read it once. I still don't think it rates!)I love books, love young adult fiction (its always so much more FUN than "grown up" stuff), good romantic comedy, smart writing and strong intelligent female characters.
I've been seeing that other Mckinleyites are meeting up in Melbourne. Any in Perth? I might have to fly over some time otherwise!

Hi DrRo!
Welcome to the forum, and congratulations on winning! If you have any questions about the forum, feel free to grab the nearest neon green tagged mod and we'll do whatever we can to help.
I'd start a new thread with the Perth question if you wanted to set up a meeting there. Maybe you can find someone nearby to help out!

Greetings to all, and thanks for being here! I live in upstate New York, after having lived all over, learned to ride at an advanced age, done radio & TV broadcasting, print journalism, marketing, and raising late-arriving twin girls who are now out having their own adventures. Now it's me, Moe-the-cat, and an SO with his own home (isn't solitude grand?). I discovered Robin's work 15 or so years ago, and am a devotee. Wish her books had been around when I was a kid! I follow Robin's blog daily, always holding my breath and hoping good things happened that day. Also marveling at her energy and courage, not to mention her phenomenal writing. I'm not at all a "fan" type person, but she's the exception, and I'm glad to be part of this community. I just have to stay away from the baking forum!!!

I've actually been a member for awhile, but I took a long, unplanned hiatus from the forum, so I feel like I ought to re-introduce myself.
I graduated from college with a B.A. in English, moved back to the Midwest--Indiana, to be more specific (yaay). Still looking for a job, but enjoying being here. I'm interested in getting my MLS (Master's in Library Science), but haven't started yet. I like making things, especially knitting and baking. And I hope to be around a bit more now!

Hello, all!
I am a new member of the forum, but I've been reading it on and off for a couple of years now, since I started reading our Hellgoddess's blog. I've been meaning to join for ages. I think one of the reasons it took me so long was that I was trying to think of a webname as cool as Hellgoddess and I finally realized that there just aren't any. I almost made it to registering last winter when the Jane Eyre discussion was on (one of my all time favorites--I felt the need to stick up for our Charlotte) but was too busy to notice that the activation emails had gone into my spam folder. By the time I realized what had happened it was too late and no one was talking about Jane Eyre anymore.
However, I'm here now! I forget how much of this I put in my profile, but I'm a graduate student in Industrial Hygiene (which sounds dreadfully stodgy and dull, I know--it isn't really) but I came there over a twisted path out of the land of professional theatre. I've been a professional scenic artist for several years, which means I take small scale designs from the scenic designer and paint them in very large scale, on the scenery. I am nuts about color, and if I had my way I'd live in a house made of Tiffany windows and mosaics, with a giant vegetable garden out back. And lots of large dogs. In my not so copious spare time I am teaching myself to play the fiddle, make stained glass mosaics, can vegetables and make jam, and immerse myself in nineteenth century women's lit (very unusual in the science department, lemme tell ya). The exception to this is that I don't like the kind where the protagonist always has to die because her inner feminism makes her life untenable. I always end up wanting to tell those ladies to sit down and have a beer.
My copies of all of Robin's books except for Pegasus (which simply hasn't had time yet) are battered and worn and dog-eared from years of being read over and over, stuffed in book bags and pockets, and dropped off the edge of the bed when I fell asleep reading. Someday I'll get nice copies to keep nice, but I'll still probably keep the battered set on the bedside bookcase (the highest honor of my bookcase ranking system--does anyone else have one of those?). Other places on that shelf go to Stella Gibbons, Charlotte Bronte, Louisa May Alcott, Gerald Durrell, Jane Austin, Tamora Pierce, and T.S. Eliot.
Anyway, I'm delighted to meet you all and look forward to many glorious discussions.
Cheerio!

Hello everyone,
I've had this account for a while but I just now started seriously perusing the forums. :)
I've been reading Robin's books for about 13 or 14 years, which is the majority of my life. I still enjoy all her books as much now as I did when I was 8.
I'm currently a student in college, pursuing a triple Bachelors degree, but I'm nearly done!
In my spare time, I play music (clarinet, bassoon, piano, ukulele), read excessively, play video games, and try to do what I can to make the world a better place.
So, that's me! I hope to see you around the forum sometime.

Hi! My name's Abi, and I discovered Robin McKinley's books exactly twelve days ago, when someone lent me all of them that she owns. I started with Spindle's End and have gone on to read Rose Daughter, Chalice, Dragonhaven, Sunshine and The Hero and the Crown, and I'm halfway through The Blue Sword. I've loved every single one so far and was quite thrilled to find this site with Exciting Other Fans!
I read (too much), collect books (mostly children's) and write (but not professionally, to my sorrow). I also work for the Post Office (have not yet decided whether this is a Good Thing) and am learning to drive (not terribly successful, owing to the fact that my steering is a bit imaginative).
Anyway. This looks like a marvellously fun forum!

Oh goodness...a bit late to the game on this one - apologies. I spent so much time browsing the forum that I forgot to introduce myself! Eeep.
I am a hobby knitter, but I'd like very much to improve myself. Way to much time is spent on Ravelry, but as yet I've only used two patterns. The same applies to my harp playing - I've played since I was 12, but despite the fact that I'm 22 now and brought a frelling harp with me over the billowy waves, I don't play nearly as well as I should! But university always becomes the excuse: whenever I have reading to do or an assignment to write for class, I feel guilty if I'm not working on that all the time, particularly since I work rather slowly.
Four years ago I moved from Pennsylvania to Scotland for my undergraduate degree, and this summer I moved from Scotland to Sweden for my partnery-boyfriendy-fiance. Stockholms universitet accepted me for a masters degree, and so now I'm testing my year-old Swedish skills. Another reason why schoolwork happens slowly.
In Scotland I was in the Gilbert and Sullivan Society as well as a couple of choirs, and I'm poking around for a few here as well. Once I've settled in a bit, and found a job, I want to get back into horsebackriding, which I miss horribly. I also miss having a pack full of PBGVs to play with, but I get to see them when I visit the folks.
Love books, love writing, love reading. Love tea. Mmmm, tea.
Robin, thank you for such a wonderful blog to follow! I've not been a member for very long, but the forum feels like a great community, and I'm happy to be here.

Oh, it's never too late to introduce yourself - and welcome to the forum! which, as you've already noticed, is a very nice place to be. And also welcome to Sweden - or should I say: "Välkommen till Sverige!" - which... well, it can be nice also.
(Oh, and a little tip - if you are learning Swedish, and don't mind reading children's lit... I think it's a very good way to learn a language, rather than reading simplified adult novels, as children's books were written in a simple language, rahter than mutila... ahum... When my husband moved here.. oh, eighteen years ago?... he was amenable to my suggestion, and read all of Gösta Knutsson's Pelle Svanslös-books... If nothing else, I'm sure he learned a few words like "strömming" But, this is a hobby-horse of mine, so I hope you'll excuse if I got a bit carried away. )
Why, I feel all thin, sort of stretched, if you know what I mean, like butter that has been scraped over too much bread.

I have read a Pelle Svanslös book! Which, oddly enough, was found at a garage sale in the States. But anyway, I liked it very much, and once my boyfriend wants to learn him some more Swedish I'll be passing it along to him.
When my friend was teaching me Swedish she also brought me Kitty som Detective, which didn't need to worry about changing reading levels but did get churned through the translation machine, so I don't know how much that counts as mutilation...YA has been a great resource for me, though, exactly for the reason that you said. You're reading the language, rather than the language abridged.

Have posted on the blog thread, but now found the proper place to say hello.
*waves at everyone*
Hi, my name is 'Fox and I read books. Long books, short books, slowly moving books, action packed books with no characterisation, and even fantasy books. (well to be honest, mostly fantasy and SF books), but if it has words in it, them I'm likely to try it.
I'm sure i'll get to know you all more as I delve into the longer threads.
