Yes, that sounds about right for the Gods of Contrariness. Never at a loss for a way to irritate us, are they.

I am, however, extremely glad to report that the tied-on green garden-rubbish bag is still in place.

Oh good. At least whatever was removing the black ones doesn't seem to feel the same way about green ones. One of my geraniums that I brought in a night too late hasn't made it. I feel so guilty! Sad I'm just hoping the other one pulls through.

Very sorry to hear that the ME is still jumping on your shoulders so hard. I wonder if any of our NZ colleagues know of - or could compose - a haka that we could all perform to scare its evil spirits away?

Spring is coming, it will be green grass and growing things again soon. *hug*

Yes, bear hugs all 'round--spring is on the approach. Of course, it's approaching from the other side of a huge friggin' pile of snow around here....

But today we’ve had bands of rain, freezing rain, sleet, snow and hail serially galloping through like some kind of Keystone Kops routine, only without the cream pies.

If it had rained cream pies, that would have been HILARIOUS. Just think of the hellhounds dragging you about, glops of whipped cream spattering left and right with their wagging tails as they shake bits of broken crust from their backs. What a blog post THAT would have been...

Although I admit I would love some waterproof walking shoes that actually fit, ie after I get them home from the shop.

FWIW, I strongly recommend UGGs. They keep my feet warm and dry and they have never caused even a hint of a blister - and my feet blister if they see a piece of leather coming toward them. They worked in Quebec in minus 25 C on cobblestone streets and in Machu Pichu in 70 F on dusty mountain paths. (I know I sound like a commercial but I have such a hard time finding comfortable shoes that I need to share the joy.)

Dang blasted ME (grabs lunge whip and proceeds to chase ME out of Hampshire) Hugs from me and goodwishes from the dogs - licking of ears proferred by Hazel

Glad the green bag is more to the liking of the local phantom bag remover. Hoping that the weather will become balmy and obviate all need for finger-puncturing staples ect ect in the very near future (tomorrow would be nice. Please!)

You have definitely earned vast amounts of merit points for walking hellhounds with ME galloping at your heels, through combinations of the worst weather that can be combined... maybe blackbear can contrive another award for gallantry in the pursuit of hellhound duties? I'm sending the largest bar of virtual green and black's I can imagine.

ARGH. ME. Can't even take a joke. You obviously can't refuse to acknowledge its presence. And you certainly don't want to bring it home to feed it dinner or it will *never* go away. How is one to deal with this?

*grumps*

But I'm actually good with snowy Hampshire pictures, so post as many as you like. ;)

Glad to hear the green bag is still there. I wonder if you'll ever find out what exactly was going on with the black ones...

Chains. I long for chains. You know, the kind that you put round the tyres on your car.

A couple of the catalogs I get sell a product that you spray on your tires to give them traction on icy or slushy roads--it's said to be used successfully in Scandinavia. I've never tried it because I've had all-wheel drive vehicles since I've lived here, but it sounds like the kind of thing it would be worth having in the boot along with the jumper cables.

I would love some waterproof walking shoes that actually fit, ie after I get them home from the shop

Given that you live in a country where rain is the norm, one might think that you'd be spoiled for choice for such things. But we have owned an English convertible sports car, which leaked like a sieve and needed bailing in a heavy rain--and you don't want to know what it was like in the winter--so I find it completely understandable that wearable waterproof shoes should exist only as an ideal. Smile

The hellhounds look a little cold and hunched up and unhappy in today's picture. I'm sure your slither into the snow was the high point of their day!

*Hugs* about the ME. Don't they say 40g very good quality dark chocolate (i.e. one of those small bars of Green & Black's) is supposed to help? I do wish you better, but, sadly, shovelling snow isn't exactly putting up "No visitors" signs at it.

I . . .observed that the skip is filling up in an appalling way. I look at the dust and shreds and scraps and think, that used to be most of the inside of my house. Couldn’t they have reused some of it?

But that is the Law of Skips - they always fill far faster than they ought, as people passing by think: "A-ha! A skip!" and proceed to put their own stuff in it, to save them a trip to the corporation dump! Better than dumping it the streets, I suppose, but seriously annoying for the poor skip-hirer!

Yes, I'm often amazed at what seemingly still useful stuff turns up in skips. Do these people not know about Freecycle, it's so useful.

So forgive me if you get more snowy Hampshire photos today too.*

The photos are beautiful - post as many as you like! And why the apology - you do realise you wrote a really long post to go with them, don't you? Smile

Bad ME begone! If blog-writing is feeling like a burden, you know you can post any old pictures you have lying about - they don't even have to be pretty, we really won't mind - the only thing we will mind is that it would prove that you were feeling poorly. So Me - hit the road, and leave Robin be!

Why, I feel all thin, sort of stretched, if you know what I mean, like butter that has been scraped over too much bread.

I've had *two* MGB roadsters . . . you dno't have to tell me about British convertibles! First year I was back in Maine I drove my MG through the winter! (I was a LOT younger then!)

It's not I don't believe you, but there's a noise and a sensation like a loose piston tearing its way out of an engine every time you say something like 'sweltering.' This heat spell of yours has been going on a VERY LONG TIME, hasn't it? This can't all be the same planet . . .

Well it seems like forever ..... it has been *hot* but then it is *summer*. The last 2 weeks have been ghastly though with most days 35-43C (94-108F). So I am looking forward to autumn.
One good thing about the heat - it's excellent at controlling the parasite eggs on the pasture and bacteria like footrot! Razz

We had another brush with winter weather Tuesday night (but ended up with less than an inch of snow); but I read a timely and very complementary review of these shoe spikes, so I thought I'd pass them on.

Poor man's version is hairspray I believe. There's some household aerosol product you can spray your tires with to get traction. I'm pretty sure it's hairspray.
