I played Apples to Apples at a convention once. Good choice!

Here's my favorite game (because I can never keep my mouth shut): http://www.boardgamegeek.com/game/1607

So, what sort of party clothes do bears wear? Stripes in their fur, jewelled paw-bands, that sort of thing? Smile

Help yourself to the chilli - I think Scar left some for later. I'm going to have another cake, once I've tracked Miss Suzi and my earring down...

Oh, gods, I'm totally photo challenged! I can do it for entries but I have no idea how to do it here! And furthermore I'm still at the mews and all my sparklies are back at the cottage!!

But here's a game at least, suitable for playing in the middle of a GALE--you other English, you should be having it too--and the middle of the NIGHT: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/game/15987
There are definitely Things Howling out there right now!!!!

And I have photos of McKinley's Famous Exploding Chocolate Cake masquerading as a kind of henge *somewhere*! But I have no idea WHERE! Good cake though, even when it explodes! And if this is all virtual you don't have to try and scrape it off the inside of YOUR oven! (Actually the exploded crunchy bits are the best part but it's not a system one really *wants* to repeat very often.)

I'm imagining the crunchy bits of the exploding cake...mmm!

Exploding Chocolate Cake? Would that go with pink champagne? About time we opened the Champagne, don't you think? Even if AJLR is still wandering around trying to find where Miss Susie hid that earring? And strong ginger ale for those who prefer no alcohol? Definitely something with bubbles that tickle the back of your nose.

I might be late, but I come bearing gifts: Have some ekmek kaimaki (don't worry if you have a dairy allergy it is buffalo cream on top and it is luscious!):

and some syropiasta. I went specially to get them from a special shop just for the party. Forgive me if I had a bit before getting here.

A glass of wine anyone? Some juice?

Oh, what merciless photos! Merciless!

I'll be over here in the sedate old crone's section with an electric throw over my lap, a cat headrest, a Collie footrest, and a Baileys and cream, reading back issues of SciAm and listening to Stan Getz' Focus (best jazz album ever).

Just poking my head in... running late as usual (and running off in a moment for some non-virtual food!).

I played Arkham Horror at a con once.... I think we actually managed to win, even! It's one of the more complicated board games I've encountered, but rather fun!

Apples to Apples is a party staple around here, and parties happen pretty regularly and randomly. Of course, we generally play so that it's the ones we like, or think the person choosing will like... having little to do withs similarity. ^_^

Another fun one is Set. The idea is that there are four variables - shape, color, fill pattern, and number. Each card has one choice for each variable (for example, three solid green diamonds), and you want to pick up three with everything from a given variable either the same or different. (so, one bordered purple squigly, two red hashed ovals, and the aforementioned three solid green diamonds). It's all about pattern recognition. Of course, not content with that, my boyfriend and I invented the brain-breaking variant - find sets where nothing matches. Anti-patterns, if you will. Great fun!

Oh, I have been missing a lot of fun! But I had to sleep - and seeing that it's fairly quiet here just now I assume others are sleeping now, so I thought this would be appropriate:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y0SlEi5kboM

Aaj kal mein dhalgaya
Today has faded into tomorrow
din hua tamaam
the day is complete
tu bhi sojaa, sogayee
sleep you too, asleep
rang bhari shyam
is the colourful evening

Sorry about the awkward - possibly slightly erronous - translation. (Some of the other lyrics are nearly unbearably sad, but I love this song...)

My, I can see why you need the electric throw and the shared body warmth, Karen!

Baileys and cream, hmm, I've not tried that...

I haven't had Baileys and cream either (Bailey's already has cream in it - it was a product created to take advantage of EU subsidies on exporting dairy products that became massive success). I have had Bailey's on vanilla ice cream topped by a sprinkle of instant coffee (the only good use of instant coffee ever, imho), but I understand that would defeat the purpose. Now if you got up for a touch of latin dancing? Only something slow I'm sure that would warm you up! We can move on to something faster after that... You ride those horses, don't tell me you're not up for some dancing?

I'll go and have a cup of tea - it'll wake me up properly - anyone else for tea?

Perhaps with some appropriate music from Nat King Cole?

Oh, that sounds delicious! I'll have both shortbread and french toast, please! The only bad thing about french toast is - no nothing health-connected (at a party? perish the thought!) - that they are so filling and I won't be able to eat as many as I would like...

Morning everybody!
Sorry I wasn't about last night... I was at work in the morning, [except we had to close the library because we had no heat] and then last night we all went out to eat dinner with my grandmother, and didn't get back until quite late, and so my parents wouldn't let me near the computer... and I was rather exhausted anyway, so I just curled up with a book and read until I fell asleep [which, I hasten to add, happens very rarely. Usually if I am reading, I'll read until I finish, and THEN I can sleep. Maybe. I guess I really was tired yesterday!

ANyway, I'm here now! With some more music, too.

Oh yes, some tea would be wonderful. I quite like this, even though my mother thinks that I only like it because of the dragon on the box... Not so! But it was what made me buy it in the first place, yes, I must admit. Smile

At first I was like "What??" And then I went back to the ingredients page. There is catnip in my tea??????? What?!

Oh well.
It still tastes good.

Hmmm... Southdowner already said that maybe I am a "time traveller from another era"... now maybe that has changed and my new secret identity is... a cat? Hey, I'll take it! You all, well most of you, like cats. So I'm still good!

Yes, I know I ought to have clarified - I actually thought of doing it, but then thought "Nah!". Once in a while one likes to be mysterious...

And you know I adore cats! And the photos were lovely - a time-travelling cat - "Time Cat" (Lloyd Alexander)...

I think a cup of my favourite Darjeeling would go down very well about now, perhaps with a chocolate digestive...? No, maybe I'll pass on the biscuit, after all that rich food last night. And I'm sure I've pulled a muscle, with all the dancing. Smile

Perhaps, L.R.K. and Julia, we could go for a slightly gentler pace today? Although I appreciate you young things are probably fitter than a middle-aged person like me...

Very Happy

Well tea in the afternoon, for the time being - I'm sure you didn't pull a thing AJLR: it's just residual stiffness, so if you dance some more, it will all fade away!

I like Tension tamer too, although I also first bought it for the dragon on the box. I agree Julia and LRK, it is an entirely valid reason to buy a box of tea if you can afford it. I have recently been seduced by this, which is at the limit of what i should afford and although I have a very nice recipe for chai thanks to our recipe exchange here, I really enjoy this too!

Have a piece of lemon drip cake and enjoy the rather pretty sun setting right outside my window.

Ooh, cool! Great video, L.R.K.!
and that photo is beautiful, Susan!

I've just been up in my room, reading Dogsbody. Whoever recommended it [and I'm sure there were many of you, actually, thank you! It was one of the few DWJ books I hadn't read. I'm glad I did. Okay, done sidetracking the conversation now] I'm all for taking the party at a slower pace, as I have to go clean my room now! And I just cleaned it, too, on Thursday morning, I folded all my clothes, and all my sister's clothes, and everything. But somehow, it is all a mess again! Sigh.

Carry on with the relaxed party, you all!

Now now, Shelley: we let our hair down, just not quite that much Wink and Vicky: you had to be there to experience it all. A pity about missing it for work: I enjoyed it extra because I was by the computer for boring work so I took a lot of breaks!

Oops, I seem to have missed it, too. But then, I'd probably have broken something if I'd tried dancing!

*hunts around for leftovers from that tray from Athens*

Fortunately last night I made gingerbread, almost like Robin's except for swapping out nutmeg for cloves. Smile Would you like some, Vikki?

EDIT: Looks like we're not the only ones here! *offers gingerbread around*
