My friend's dachs used to disappear for hours at a time down rabbit holes, and once they had to follow her barking after a days absence, and get shovels to dig her out... and you have working wire haired dachs relations! So are your shovels to hand?
(Mini wire hair dachsies are on my list of dogs I would like if life were longer)
