How awful. Eeugh! Blech! Yes, you warned us, and thank you for that, but...eeughhh! But do not wash your hands into rawness. Do not need open wounds on hands (and not from worry about dog poo, but because you need hands for typing wonderful stories and knitting.) It's none of my business, but I'd ditch the gloves unless after washing they smell of nothing but wool (or whatever yarn they're made of.) I got used to poo on the hands when our son was little (as he is autistic, the whole "training" thing went on years more than is usual, with more attendant mess with age) but sloppy dog poo while out and about in full view of any public that happen to be there? Much worse.

Glad you made it to the opera, and sorry it failed in some respects. I may have missed this in a previous short absence, but...are the leg-warmers all one color or striped or sort of blendy or...? And are they pink? (Trying to get a visual image here.) I'd like to make leg warmers for myself, but my mental image of leg-warmers for me is that I'd like look an elephant in knitted spats.

I've never had a plastic bag break, but oh how I appreciate the ewww grossness of your situation. I have taken to using plastic gloves--the disposable exam-glove kind--when doing public pick-up duty with my critters, and keeping an extra one in my pocket just in case of some unexpected disaster. So far so good. As for your gloves . . . I don't think I'd bother with the boiling, myself. Ewww . . .

I didn't hear Traviata this afternoon and from your description, I would have disliked the production a whole lot. As when:
[. . .] she realises he’s asking her to give up Alfredo forever SHE TAKES HER DRESSING-GOWN OFF and trails around in her slip. Oh gods how I hate the wandering around in your underwear to indicate vulnerability and innocence thing. (She does it again later at the party. [. . .])
This would have taken me right outside the performance, even if other elements (like Alfredo in his underwear) had failed to do so. I dislike and am distracted by staging that wants to trump the music or libretto or both. Aaargh. It's too bad that on top of that, the singers were not at their best.

I would gloat about the relative clean-ness of cats--there's always a catbox scoop between me and the poop, even at the worst of times--but just this afternoon I moved the wicker bin I drop my mail into by the front door... and beneath it was a Very Squashed, Very Dead mouse. I've no idea how it got under the bin, probably its final attempt at escape from the cruel paws of fate. But JEEZ GUYS, could you at least let me KNOW when you've hidden a body someplace? It was like CSI: Front Porch. Bleh.

Re: La Traviata...

One is reminded of the old backstage joke:

Why is Violetta like Mimi?

They both die of consumption... but in Violetta's case it's conspicuous consumption.

** Can These Gloves Be Saved? Probably not. I’ll boil the right one a few times, but . . . probably not.
24hrs soaking in NapiSan. If the glove doesn't survive that then I guess you were throwing them out anyway...!

Boxers? Shoots one right out of a listening trance.
I'm still recovering from the electric iron, and the tank in the Mets Daughter of the Regiment. - At least in that the singing was wonderful. And I got to see/hear Kiri Te Kanawa in the flesh.

Yay on the 2nd legwarmer!

Quote:

‘Violetta Valery knows that she will die soon, exhausted by her restless life as a courtesan.’ SHE’S DYING OF TUBERCULOSIS, YOU CRETIN. Her lifestyle is certainly contributing to the speed of her decline, but if that were all that was wrong with her she’d last a good while yet.
Good grief! That is a pretty bad synopsis.

I haven't seen many productions of La Trav, but I've yet to see one in which the 2nd act didn't bore me. (Well, except for Papa Germond's aria. He's being a jerk, but oh! is it gorgeous music.) This includes two of Zeffirelli's stagings. Maybe the act is simply hard to stage effectively.

Ewww ewww ewww. I don't have a cat, I have mousetraps, and I HATE finding a dead mouse. Layers of plastic between me and it do not make it any better. I hope your cats appreciate your position on hidden corpses ...

As someone who milks cows on a dairy farm two days a week, I can tell you that it does wash off.

I will not mention what's been on my bare hands. I wash them twice, very well and then trust they are clean.

And if you are unfortunate enough to stand behind a farting cow, then you will learn that a good wash in the machine with pre-wash does the job very nicely. Oxi-Action also takes the scent out of things, but if it's barn clothes, there isn't a point.

I would argue that rolling over in one's sleep, only to discover one's face in a pool of kitty vomit, is worse.

This does not happen when you do not have a cat. This is one of the VERY GOOD REASONS I do not have a cat. Razz

However, given the number of people on the forum who have access to animals with copious excrement of all types I humbly suggest we don't carry on with "mine's bigger than yours" ... LOL (Have I mentioned the incident with the dairy cow...?)

Hehe I don't use it for that! I soak my hankies in it. And anything stained... and for sterilising fish tank bits... a million and one uses. Very Happy

Don't some dog-walkers use some gadget called a "poopor-scoopor"?

Some might, but pooper-scoopers proper are long-handled and bulky, like those dustpans made for janitors. And they're not too useful if there isn't a handy trash can in which to empty them. Plastic bags in one's pocket are much more practical, as long as they are sturdy plastic bags.

A long time ago I read a magazine article in which several employees of the Bronx Zoo were interviewed. The last question each employee was asked was, "What's the most important thing you've learned working at the Bronx Zoo?"

My favorite answer was, "If it gets on you, you can wash it off!"

I remember those words whenever I'm elbow deep in something gross.
