Thanks for the almost heart attack in the first third of the first sentence! Wink

I calmed down somewhat in the middle third of the first sentence and was completely happy in the final third of the first sentence!

What a sentence!

I enjoy the whole meta level of a book within a book. Sure, lots of Robin's characters have read books and talked about ones they liked (including other books she's written), but this is the first time I recall getting a glimpse inside the book in the book. I thought at first it might stay with that story and never go back to the unfaithful Greek. I wonder if the book will jump back and forth, show an author putting herself into her stories (or how life affects the story might be more accurate). Odd since that's not how Robin expresses her writing process. I'm not sure which story I'm more interested in (although the name Flowerhair is a bit of a turn off). Nothing like hornery swords.

Hey everybody--as New Thing's picking up steam, I've started a discussion thread for it in Robin's Writings. So if you want to do any plot speculation or discussion outside Robin's hearing, there's a spot for it. Blogmom is still sorting out the best mechanics of linking to these "chapters" from the blog post forum, but for now we'll keep just updating this thread with links as needed.

I don't know if I can describe how much I am enjoying this, so I won't try. You'll just have to imagine. (And once you have, crank the setting on that imagination up about 100 more points. Then you might be in the neighborhood.)

Yay! And THANK YOU! I can't wait for #3! Smile

I haven't made time to comment up until now, what with school, job, and husband's 60th b-day trip to Kuaui, but I wanted to note that I'm loving the New Thing and look forward to each installment. It's a fun mash-up of fantasy parody and just enough of Robin's regular blogging style to make me have to stop and remember that, *this* part is the New Thing, not Days in the Life. Thanks, Robin and Cathy!

Throwing my "enjoying newthing very much too" into the conversation as well.
I like little installments. Gives me something to read at lunchtimes that doesn't let me get too far and accidentally read into time I should be working....not that I would DO that of course....

These looked like the kind that would probably rustle indiscriminately, and might contain stertorously-breathing crickets that tested the window latches at night

She should try the oak in front of my house- the squirrels were leaping madly from limb to limb this morning.

YESSSSS! Another installment in The New Thing. I look forward to these and was disappointed when the computer (almost) ate the last one (which I suppose is really *this* one).

But she's already come down with the rented van? with a sofa and twenty-five (or thirty) cartons of the miscellaneous rubbish? That rather commits her to the enormous three-bedroom house. It's either that or she drives off down the road, all her worldly belongings in tow...

I am waiting with great anticipation to see what dog K MacFarquhar acquires. Can't decide if it will be like the pre-imagined Silent Wonder Dog, which sounds very like Robin's own preferences re: dogs, or whether the dog acquired will actually be its polar opposite. Either will be fun. However, I feel that A dog is guaranteed at some point.

Having fit two people's total possessions in a van (minus a few things in storage, and our sofa and carpet) and then from there into a dorm room (not known as luxurious by most standards), I can say that if she's able to fit everything in 1 van (coming from an NYC apt), she doesn't need an enormous house. In fact, if she does go with the enormous house (which it did sound like she was going to), it will probably feel empty and rattly for awhile. Of course, the alpaca would probably be good for taking up at least 1 room's worth of space....

Hurray for more New Thing.

(Coming from a seriously tricky chunk of writing on Last Thing today, it was glorious to find a bit of New Thing to read and relax with before bed.)

(Last Thing isn't really last last, but the last volume in this group.)

I absolutely love the alpaca story. What a beautiful animal. It would probably be easier that riding with some dogs I have gone on car trips with.

Regarding the new thing - anyone who has moved has found that their belongs always expand to slightly more that the vehicle that will move them - it is one of the Murphy rules of the universe.

I am waiting eagerly for the next installment of the new thing. What fun.

I'm really enjoying New Thing. Smile

I can certainly empathise re trying to get all of one's possessions packed and into a vehicle for a stressful long journey. There was the time I had been posted (in my airforce days) to a new station and had everything I owned (at the age of 22 this was, so not that much) into my car which - halfway through the journey and when rapidly approaching a major roundabout - decided to lose all the hydraulic fluid in the brake cylinder...

I should like to have had a Joe the Doorman to ask about/fix things. Smile
