Well, I am the one who originally suggested 2017 as a possible mailing date for the doodles, and I'm sticking to that, so by my count, you've got five and a half years (if we're counting to the Christmas season in 2017, so that we can, if we desire, give doodles as gifts. To ourselves.). And I am quite looking forward to Shadows, and am glad that it's taking the time that the doodles would take. The motto I've been trying to live by recently is: there are always important things I'm neglecting in favor of the important things I'm doing, but that doesn't mean what I'm doing is wrong.
However, I am reading a book right now in which there is a character with two bodies, each of which functions independently of the other, but she really is just one person (so, none of that sending-your-clone-to-work-and-your-clone-eventually-gets-fe d-up-with-this-system nonsense) and I would like to put in an order for one of those myself. Please.

I've just been dipping in the last few evenings, but wanted to reply to a post a few days ago...I just got a Kindle for Christmas and got Spindle's End for it. I know you don't coordinate this sort of thing, but I love that it is super easy to navigate, both with the clickable table of contents and giving page numbers along with Kindle "location numbers." So kudos to whoever does do that...and of course I wouldn't be needing to navigate so much if it wasn't such a great story that I have to go back and reread my favorite parts even before I'm finished. (It helps that this isn't my first reading, so I knew some of my favorite parts from the get-go.)
Looking forward to both Shadows and the next Pegasus installment, but the anticipation time just makes them more enjoyable when they arrive!
I'm just impressed by how many things you invest yourself in. I know this will not be the most outwardly active couple years of my life (staying home with 3 kids under 4 right now), but I don't know if I will ever manage as many balls as well as you seem to. I love to hear about some of the activities that I have a passing interest in but no willingness to commit (roses especially...I always enjoy those that OTHER people grow).
Now to go read a chapter...or two...of Spindle's End before bed.

As I've said before, I'd rather have a sane and happy Robin; the doodles will come when they come. I'm in no hurry.
I am sending you hugs, and a special upgrade for your Mr Bolty, which will give you the option of smiting with pink or purple sparkles or even sparkly magical roses, as well as the lightning bolts. Don't worry, it's all magic, and it's already there, no technology required. Just aim and fire.
"The creative urge can come out in any form: in embroidery, in... cooking, in painting, drawing and sculpture, in composing music, as well as in writing books and stories... the artist's inner satisfaction was probably much the same." ~ Agatha Christie

Possibly writing a story is like bread rising- it takes as long as it takes, depending lots of things. Slow rising bread tastes the best, so maybe slow rising stories do too.
As for the doodles, well, I've forgotten I sent off the money now, so it will feel like I'm getting a free amazing gift from the universe whenever it does arrive.

only in dying life:

on the empty sky.

She doesn't knit because nothing happens fast enough? Hee. Someone is clearly not a process knitter. I like the way knitting feels! I'm perfectly happy to wait for something to happen. (Though I don't like waiting TOO long. I'm not made of patience, you know.)

I'm getting ready to cheer, loudly.

My Tower Captain was explaining to me, yesterday evening, the difference between Stedman Triples and Stedman Doubles - which is apparently not as simple as it might be. I was saying 'Mmmhmm', and 'Oh really?' in what I hoped were appropriate places. I would probably have been better off knitting though (if I could knit, which I can't). Still, one of these days I'm sure it'll all come in useful. And it's only three weeks now till the Hereford Course (help!)

I’m never in a good mood when I wonder what kind of an absolutely weird impression of Robin McKinley I’m giving by the public persona who appears here. I don’t think I’m quite as TOTALLY FRELLING SELF OBSESSED as you’d be forgiven for thinking I am from these (virtual) pages [ . . .]
Since blog posts are essentially personal essays, the fact that you write about you shouldn't lead anyone to conclude that that's all you think about. And since the personal essay is as artificial a form as any other, readers shouldn't assume that the persona of any blogwriter/essayist corresponds exactly to the real human being behind the keyboard, whoever he or she may be. Speaking for myself, I don't think your public persona is weird at all, but even discounting the influence of opera over a lifetime, we aged English majors and dog nuts ought to stick together.

I'm with you on the "knitting to fill otherwise wasted waiting time." I will be doing that again next week, since husband is required to have a driver for a bout of endoscopy (through and through, so to speak, since last year's tumors were arranged to make both necessary.) I had better go back to the scarf, as uneven tension in a garter-stitch scarf is less noticeable than a sock with a "waist" in the middle of a foot. It's often tempting, though, to knit while around people I'd rather not look at or really listen to. I've even contemplated working on a little bitty project during the second service on those Sundays we sing both and have to listen to the same sermon twice, but certain fussy persons would object. (How any sensible person can object to someone quietly knitting--and I would use wooden needle--during sermons I do not understand. But I know we have some less sensible people watching our demeanor. They tell us so whenever someone does something they don't approve of.)

This makes perfect sense to me. I find that on public forums such as Facebook I try to avoid posts with other people as much as possible and make sure that when I write about someone else it's neutral to positive. Much easier just to post things involving only myself or my cats rather than risk hurting someone's feelings or sharing something they wanted kept private for the sake of FB (sometimes I ask permission before posting about someone else as well). And we know you mostly want to avoid button issues, although when they're important enough you don't hesitate to discuss them. So writing about yourself, your hellhounds, and hobbies is logical.
