I've always liked the term Ursula LeGuin used (in Always Coming Home) instead of pets: "commensals". Although if eating is not high on your dog's list of priorities, it might be wishful thinking.
And reared up on his hind legs, took the handle in his mouth and pulled down. The door snicked open.
I had never taught him to do this.
My Dane Zinka learned to open doors by observation and experiment. She could hit the handle and push a hinged door open with her paw, and she could open a heavy sliding glass door by starting with a toe, then a nose, and then a shoulder. She learned how to open the latches on kennel doors when she stayed with our handler for a week or so. I was not thrilled that she figured these things out, especially when she demonstrated her abilities by exiting the vet's office by herself while I was putting someone else in the van. But it could have been worse. A friend's Giant Schnauzer has learned how to open their refrigerator door, and they have to keep it secured with bungee cords.
I hope Mongo exercises good sense and discretion about which doors to open.

Writing." or whatever (okay, that's 3 one-word sentences, but you know what I mean!) will be enough to reassure us that you are alive and functional, if only just barely. Sleep - and SHADOWS - is more important than the blog (and you can always give us More Mongo, which can only be a Good Thing!).

Me, too. I second this. As much as I enjoy your blog, don't wear yourself out over it.

(dark choc sucked slowly so it melts in your mouth and coats the throat will help the cough, yes?)
Don't worry about the dust bunnies, they're just here to guard the treasure.....

I agree (and also with VikkiK's excellent prescription of dark chocolate to ease your cough!)

(Oh, and I'm on Team Sylph for that book that's coming out at the end of January, whatever its name is.)
|
I don't think there would be any doubt that I'm on Team Mongo... LOL (I've got his b/w cheer squad/fan girls!)
(And for the other... yes, Team Sylph... )
