I'm fine, and as far as I know, none of my friends have been involved. My little sister lost a former schoolfellow in the shooting at Utøya, though Sad

I was just watching the news about it on tv - truly, truly horrific. I'm so sorry for all who died, or who lost friends or family... Such... insanity...

Why, I feel all thin, sort of stretched, if you know what I mean, like butter that has been scraped over too much bread.

It's unbelievable. There aren't any words for this kind of thing...

My sister and her family are safe, but everyone knows someone who lost family. It's heartbreaking.

On EMoon's newsgroup, a Norwegian member posted this video link. At the massive meeting in Oslo, where Crown Prince Haakon spoke of the streets being filled with love, everyone (all 200,000) were carrying one or more flowers. The mayor of Oslo told them to go decorate the city with them. So they did.

Of course here, where it has been about 105°F the last few days, it would just have been littering as the roses fried immediately. But in Oslo, it's --- astonishing, and lovely, and a tangible symbol of a people's determination to remain the open and free and loving society that they are. I would say Breivik utterly misjudged his audience. How incredibly tragic that he should feel that he needed to wake up the country to what he saw as the treason of the government's letting in all these foreigners, especially Muslims. So he murders dozens of the country's future leaders, and -- the response he will never ever understand -- the determination is to remain on the course they are taking.
