This is the place to post your photo entries of the outfit you would (possibly) wear to the London signing on the 7th July, if you were able to get there. Please observe the rule about the max size of 100Kb for the file to be uploaded. If you think that file size restricts the creative impact of your outfit, please upload your chosen size of photo elsewhere on the web and just post the link to it in this thread. If you haven't got photo-editing software on your computer at home, then you could use something like this site to upload your photo to, then edit the image down to a size of 960 x 720 pixels, and save it back to your PC before submitting it here either in the body of your comment or as an attachment to it. If anyone has any difficulties with that, please just let us know (start a new topic in 'Forum Help' and we'll respond).

Yes, I'd even wear the wig! And the crown.

I'm not quite as brave...
But I would wear one of these.

(Yeah, I'd totally read standing up in a rose garden!)

Hehe so I'm not sure if this one qualifies or not... since, while undeniably silly, it is not actually clothing, nor does it have anything to do with the books or even fantasy in general. I couldn't help but put the old thing on again, though, going for the "Making-Robin-laugh-until-she-cries prize". Smile And I DID just post a picture of myself as a cow on the internet. Just saying.
(P.S. If it makes any difference... I really WOULD show up to the book signing in this if it meant a free book)index.php?t=getfile&id=518&private=0

Just make sure that book comes my way! I probably would wear this to the signing. Unfortuantely, I won't be in London, or even in the UK that day.

Right. Three photos max, eh? OK, here we go with one from *ahem* thirty years ago. I present: The Monster!

http://www.flickr.com/photos/aunty_marion/3868972472/

(I liked it so much that my flatmate Kathy, who'd designed it for me, went round muttering "I've created a monster!" and the name stuck.)

(I'm sorry, I have NO IDEA how to manipulate this FUDcode stuff to actually get the picture to appear! I've tried several different variants and ... can't.)

Costume 2: from about the same date, and I have actually worn this one to travel by bus across London... The Grey Mouser! I won an award at the fancy dress parade at this convention for this costume - Best Dressed Male. One of the Senior Judges, Dot Owens, gods rest her memory, pointed out to the rest that the award was for the costume, not necessarily the person wearing it.

And, thirdly, one that might just get worn on the day (or at least demonstrated - it's frodding hot to wear for long in this weather!): The Dwarven Battle Bonnet!

Pattern found on Ravelry; knitted by me.

Here is the dress I think I would wear 8-> I am the one in purple.index.php?t=getfile&id=521&private=0

I hope photos with other people in them are OK. I could put that dress on, but there is no one here to take the picture.

Hey Knitronomicon, your links are all to your whole photostream rather than to individual pictures.
You might want to fix that.

Yes--to link to individual photos in Flickr, you'll need to get the hard link for the picture itself. Knitronomicon, click the photo you want to use within the photostream, so that that photo is the only photo visible. Then copy and paste that link, which should look something like this:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/68068329@N00/5895245789/in/phot ostream/

To answer your other question--Flickr no longer allows you to directly embed images hosted on Flickr in another website, I think. But posting links is fine, just make sure they link directly to the photo in question or your entries won't count! And that would be tragic. Smile

It does, actually. On the photo page on Flickr, there's a big F above the photo, plus a down arrow next to it. Click the down arrow, grab HTML/BBCode, and make sure the BBCode radio button is clicked. Then copy the code and paste it in. That's all!

Thanks! I think I've got it now, and have posted the actual pictures. I was trying to follow the Help file on FUD code, and it didn't seem to work whatever I did.

Well, I *was* going to post this photo of my mini Robyn wearing her cat suit. But Someone wouldn't let me. Okay then, fine.

Instead you'll just have to be envious of my bolero jacket.

http://www.beautiful-horses.com/elvis1.jpg

This amazing jacket has a designer label in it, but don't be fooled! It was made by someone who had some black velvet, a big bottle of Elmer's Glue, two pounds of silver glitter (at least) and way too much time on their hands. I can say in all honesty (and I think you can see I am *not* exaggerating, here) that you will have the undivided attention of any goats who happen to be in the neighborhood if you should wear it. It turns out horses enjoy it from a little more distance. I refrained from exposing my legs, which are so startlingly white that had I done so, the horses would even now be heading steadily towards Texas. Here is a photo of the back so you can enjoy the glittery gloriousness that is this jacket:

http://www.beautiful-horses.com/elvis4a.jpg

This is the envy of Hansel and Gretel. I can assure you that it leaves a trail of glitter behind it everywhere you go, so it is impossible to get lost while wearing it.

My mother gave this to me years ago, much to my complete astonishment, and while I was struggling to find just the right words to say upon receipt of it, my sister pointed out that never again did I need to worry about what to wear should I ever be invited to a Mexican hat dance. Well, the years have gone by and I was never invited to that Mexican hat dance, but if I were ever to attend a book signing by a certain very special author, well, let me just say I have in mind the perfect outfit.

Second is from Dragon*Con last year as Amy Pond. There were surprisingly few Doctor Who costumes there but I guess that will be different this year with the increase in popularity.

Well, I cannot figure out resizing my photos, so I'll just give you links. This one isn't really silly, per se, but it would certainly attract undue attention if I paraded it around the streets of London. I made it for a masquerade ball about 4 years ago (no, I have no photos of my mask, but it was pretty!)

Secondly, I give you the Goth Rocker Fairy outfit. This was a Halloween costume my second year of college, and it startled people greatly. (I am not, as a general rule, a Goth type of person, nor do I, as an aspiring opera singer, generally go about with electric guitars, even fake ones!) But I enjoyed wearing this Very Happy

I am not entirely sure if this last one counts. You see, it doesn't have me in it. But I DID wear it... two years ago I was in the musical Zombies From The Beyond and my role (Zombina, queen of Planet X) was double-cast. There don't seem to be any extant photos of me in the costume, but I assure you I did wear it. Anyway, if this is stretching the rules you may disregard this entry Smile

It looked just about the same on me, only shorter; I'm 4 inches taller than the girl in the photo!

First of two costumes: This is my SFWA Musketeer costume (a shot taken at a convention a few years ago)

For the signing, I'd wear the bucket boots instead of the black ones.

And the second try: Today's "Yarn Fairy (Godmother)" with a small sample of her stash:

index.php?t=getfile&id=527&private=0

Gown: purple shiny fake fabric (son's HS graduation gown)

Bandoliers: Part of Saturday's indulgence, one skein each

Belt: (hardly shows): Another part of Saturday's indulgence

"Hat": A balled skein of Saturday's indulgence (held on with some old Red Heart yarn: was not going to use glue on good yarn!)

Stash: paper bag (Saturday's indulgence), striped bag (one small part of my mother's stash), yellow bag (my two current projects, one of which is lying on it.)

For a stroll through London to Robin's signing, would have a work bag hung from the belt, and be knitting on the way (badly, but knitting--if one is going to be the Yarn Fairy (Godmother), then knitting in progress means DURING a progress, yes? Also would include yarn necklace, with scissors and spare needle points and things as "charms", and yarn ear decor. It was too HOT for that.

Here's another silly costume from years ago!

The things I do for my library... We have an annual children's fair called the Frog Frolic, and for several years, I was the only one who fit in the frog costume. So here I am as Huckleberry the Frog. (Again, with my sister. She's dressed as Mark Twain)

Dress up for the library ... yeah. I passed out in a Peter Rabbit costume ... had to be taken to the ER in the ambulance. No pictures.

But skating clubs also require dressing up, so here's the costume from the show
"Cafe Zamboni". My role was that of "wrangler" for the Cream Puffs ... their costumes were great and their entrance was from an oven.

Last one... again, sort-of library related. Less obviously silly, this time, but definitely different. October 2008 was my library's centennial celebration. So, I went out and found a dress to wear to the party. And the dress that I found was from 1908. It was absolutely perfect!

Thank you so much for that photo editor link, btw; that made this photo possible.

This was also from a costume party at my dance studio (we have a lot of them); we were having a Harry Potter theme this particular night, and I was Hedwig. I regretfully cut my dance teacher out (he made a lovely Ron Weasley, and it makes much more sense if you can see that I'm dancing with someone rather than merely stretching out my arm and grinning) because I wasn't sure how he'd feel about being posted here.

Okay, for my final entry I am sharing a picture of me in my dirndl. I used to be in a folkdancing group and this was my German costume, lovingly made and altered for me by two of my good friends. There were many pictures of me in my dirndl in college, and out of all of my three entries this is the one I'd be most likely to actually wear to the signing, since I've been known to go all around the country doing performances in this costume (and even wore it to the wedding of the friend who sewed it for me). Unfortunately most of the good pictures were taken back when digital cameras weren't really around much yet, so you're stuck with the poor lighting in this one. It is at yes, another costume party at my dance studio.

(You can't see it very well, but this curtsy is how we ended all of our dances.)
