Hello, all! I've been lurking about reading the blog for months now, but finally decided to just go ahead and join up over here, too.

The name's Katy. I'm one of those tattooed young librarians who seem to be swiftly replacing the "buns and tweed" librarians as the new stereotype these days. I've been reading compulsively and voraciously ever since I learned how, and, of course, am a big fan of Robin's books. "The Blue Sword" and "The Hero and the Crown" proved to me that women characters in fantasy fiction really can be more than "dutiful daughters" and "willful princesses," which was a lovely thing to learn and take to heart. So thanks, Robin, for letting youthful me know that I can be the hero of my own story!

I love dogs, but right now I have a devious little feline who demands food, pampering, and general entertainment as being his divine right, but who is just so cute you don't mind. I also have a husband, who is much the same. Wink (I keeeed, I keeed! He's a wonderful husband!)

Um, what else...? Oh, also, I am a photographer. Smile

Hello Katy and welcome. There's a lot of picture posting going on here, too, as I'm sure you've seen if you've lurked a bit. Join the fun: come and get your feet wet.

Welcome eerial, (did I spell that right?)--this is a great place. Look around and see what there is to see (and post in). I'm Shelley, I'm not a moderator, but I'm here, I swear, almost all the time...

Hi there! I thought it was time to stop lurking.

My name's Jacquie and I found the blog, like many others, whilst looking to see if there were any new books due. I started reading the blog in time to find out about the signing in London and was able to get up there and really enjoyed it. I did like Hazel's costumes too!

I'm an analytical chemist and I enjoy reading (It's a very long list of authors but particularly Terry Pratchett, Anne McCaffrey, Robin of course, Elizabeth Moon and recently David Webber), cross-stitch, walking, horse-riding and Tai Chi. I would like to do more with the garden, but all I can find time to do cut the grass and keep ahead of the weeds.

I need more bookcases and a room like the Tardis to put them in!

Hi Jacquie!

The signing was fun wasn't it? I'm glad you liked the costumes; I did wonder how mad I was taking a dog plus a dozen books, water, water bowl, treats, toys and two changes of outfit halfway across England, but it was so nice to be part of a McKinley gathering Smile

Glad you've decided to de-lurk - have you added some of those books you mentioned to the Pollyanna list? And there's the discussion thread - what are you reading ...

... and time! No time! Yes, I totally understand. But how nice to have so many nice things that you enjoy doing Smile

Dear southdowner no one doubted you were mad to take dog, paraphernalia and costumes to London, but we all enjoyed it tremendously. It was great fun even for those of us who didn't attend and Hazel must have been a great icebreaker / rallying point for those who came: "I don't recognise the humans, but how many bullies will attend this gathering?"

Jacquie welcome. I loved analytical chemistry when I was at University. I almost got seduced into it as a career but didn't. Smile But books, yes, I would love a bookcase in an instantly accessible at any time and place fold in the time/space continuum. Space. Bookcases.... I think the piles are getting large enough to have their own evil intelligence. Something bad will happen (besides yet another one toppling, I mean). Smile

It would have been Amazing to go to one of Robin's book signing! Does she do any in the US? or are they all in England? Perhaps when I'm over in England for school I'll be able to go to one. (:

Hi I'm Zelda - aka tassiegal. I havent read a single one of Robins books yet (though I do intend too, its just my thesis is eating my life) - I stumbled upon her blog when looking for roses....
I love gardening, reading, and travelling. I have 3 giant burrowing cockroaches as pets, and "borrow" my mothers wire haired fox terrier whenever they come to visit. I have an addiction to roses (but have run out of space, maybe, potentially, if I MOVE some stuff I might have more space) and keep attempting to grow my own veggies (success with potatos, and I THINK the tomatos might work this year, the jury is still out about the carrots, peas, beans and corn).

Welcome Zelda,

I hope the tomatoes do work out, and the thesis too. Welcome, and I hope you do get to read Robin's books, they most definitely reward the effort.

Shelley, I saw the Doctor playing Hamlet (obviously in his spare time) at Stratford on Avon a couple of weeks ago. He was AWESOMELY awesome. And possibly even more awesome than that. I have seen Hamlet many times, but this time I understood it--viscerally.

Welcome to all the new people too--always nice when lurkers are brave enough to come out of the underworld! I want a Tardis also--the only one I ever saw was at Glastonbury--and it was LOCKED. Gaaah!

Lucy don't tell southdowner. She's distraught she couldn't get tickets. She was on the waiting list and sobbing for some to no avail. We can't have her unconsolable with the knowledge you have seen you-know-who playing you-know-what. What will happen to her dogs?

Hi I'm Cynthia!
I love Robin McKinley's books... Deerskin is my all time favorite. When my husband read it, I had to tell him no, the dog doesn't die... or else he wouldn't have finished the book. My second favorite is Sunshine, I love vampire books. I want to reread both of them.

My passion is my dogs... I have six, four smooth collies and two border collies. We do dog sports... agility, flyball, obedience. played in some herding. I'm working with four of my dogs (trying to find the time) and two of the dogs are house dogs. I love them all. We used to foster and fell in love with the last couple that's why we have so many. But once you get used to it 6 isn't really that many. Smile

I have a couple blogs myself and read Robin's blog too sometimes. Just thought I'd stop in the forums and say hi.

You seem to have alot in common with many of us regulars - there is a pet's thread around here somewhere...

I think there's more than one pet thread, actually. One is a memorial thread.

6 dogs! Wait, isn't there someone else around here with like a gazillion dogs? southdowner, are you listening?

Hi Cynthia, welcome. Yes, we're used to southdowner with 11 dogs and other assorted animals.
