That is a gorgeous cake, and not a beginner's!

A friend of ours who knits endlessly has just given two shawls like the one pictured for Yule gifts--and she chose to add beads to the outer rows. What a lovely pattern that is!

Even prettier to see and touch (*smug*)

Livvi and her friends all seem to work in the finest yarn I have seen, with tiny skinny needles. I have always been a fan of crochet that moves along at least a quarter inch per stitch. This stuff was quite out of my league.

(Though when it comes to the beadweaving that I took up in my fifties, people are always commenting on the tininess of the beads and the patience it must take. But with beads, at least if you drop one you don't get a ladder propagating itself down the whole piece.)

::whispers:: You could make one, Jodi. Isn't there some handspun laceweight yarn in your stash? I also might know someone you could bother with any lace questions you might have. ::is a lace enabler::

You are both terrible horrible people!! (Actually I do have some laceweight merino/tencel, and I recently purchased appropriate lace needles and blocking wires....)

Wait. Why are we terrible people? Because we're encouraging you to knit? I hear you already do a lot of that. Because we think you might have a gorgeous lace shawl at the end of your project? Umm... not feeling guilty about that. Very Happy (Having a few handknit lace shawls myself, I'm a bit partial to them.)

I made mine with white silk yarn that I dyed with kool-aid in the microwave. You can't see it very well, but it's got lots of white spots that looks like clouds where the dye didn't go on evenly Very Happy

*snork*

I actually do want to try lace this year. Hence all the lace supplies. I've just got to decide which one I want to start with. :)

You are so brave. I have yet to get up the courage to dye any yarn for a project, yet. Is there a chance of closer pictures of the shawl, either here or on Ravelry? ::is greedy to see more of the pretty::

I'm generally too lazy to post things on Ravelry, but...

shawl
shawl on cat
cat likes shawl

And for good measure, these are the Chalice-inspired gloves I started at the party; I finally finished them today. I particularly like the lacing up the sides Very Happy

I like cat likes shawl!

My cat Mithril ignored things like rabbit fur or fake fur--she'd nurse on things made with acrylic fibers, at any age. It was bee-zarr.
