To Robin:
Sorry your day was so horrid! Can't imagine the terror of implants, although I'll have to deal with them vicariously in a couple decades because the orthodontist ravaged my poor husband's tooth roots (teeth roots? no tooth roots I think) to the point where his teeth noticeably shift on a daily basis, so he'll need fakes or implants at some point.

However. However, however, however. You should know that you indirectly made my day (which was full of torrential rains from a tropical storm) wonderful because I received news that I won one of the ARC copies of Pegasus! Thank you so much for having posted the link on your blog! They sent it out today, and I'm going to be excitedly checking the mail every day till it comes.

Errrrrgggggg.

The dentist is my vision of a medieval (or modern) torturer. I was cringing through that post. (Four crowns and a root canal in the last three years have made that vision very clear.) I've had trouble with the adrenaline they give to stop the bleeding, because it's led me into a hyperventilating crying cringing meltdown at the dentist before. I don't even want to think about implants/surgery.

I have discovered that laughing gas is my best friend during dental procedures.

Anyway, you have my utmost sympathies for the dental torture. And BTW, I love broccoli. It does have to be thoroughly cooked for me to eat it, but once cooked, I love it.

Ouch.

*sympathy*

Yes, not a good time to be stuck with soft foods. (That said, have you considered baked apples? I cheat nowadays and do them in the microwave, but, as with baked potatoes, I think they're better done in the oven. *thinks* Hey, there's a thought - do both at the same time?)

^ Actually . . . broccoli is a comfort food for me. Okay, I admit it. That’s sick.

No, that's not sick. Brocolli is one of the four major food groups... along with chocolate, vodka (or champagne) and one other thing that changes to fit whatever I feel an absolute need to eat at the time. (maybe raspberry turnovers...)

You had a post implanted and they didn't put you out or give you the next best thing???? I can't remember what they gave my husband--I just hauled him around. He was asleep unless you talked to him, once you got his attention. You poor thing!
I'd have Words with someone.

Broccoli, when cooked to near mushy but still bright green, feels so good going down the throat that I can imagine i being comfort food. Raw? Not so much.

The dentist is my vision of a medieval (or modern) torturer.

Not torturer - pain technician. Emperor Cartagia in Babylon 5: "pain technicians, they used to be called torturers, ever since they got organized it's 'pain technicians'."

Why I'm mentioning this is - well, firstly, I've recently finished my latest rewatch of B5 and am steeped in it, and also suffering serious B5 withdrawal - and secondly, it somehow seems eminently fitting on a dentist, doesn't it? Pain technicians. (Also, I just like it.)

And Robin, I'm sorry for your horrid day - hope today is much better!

As for broccoli - I like it. It's not comfort food or anything like that for me, but I really can't understand the hatred it seems to inspire in some. What's so horrid about broccoli? I think it's quite nice, actually.

Why, I feel all thin, sort of stretched, if you know what I mean, like butter that has been scraped over too much bread.

My toes were curling in sympathy - but good to read by the end of the post that you were feeling much better. I'm amazed that you kept going for a whole day without eating - my life revolves around where my next meal is coming from!

I like broccoli. Get used to it.^ ^ Actually . . . broccoli is a comfort food for me. Okay, I admit it. That’s sick.

Not sick at all. Broccoli is one of my favourite veg (amongst many). It's always in the fridge, and part of almost every meal. I love it.

Your tea, on the other hand, sounds disgusting! Very Happy Mind you, I'm one who pours the hot water first, then dunks the teabag two or three times, and that's it!

I was under general anesthesia when I had my wisdom teeth out, but I well remember waking up (just like on TV, "drink this . . ." someone was saying) and having a very unpleasant few days afterwards. One would not want to live in pre-dentist days, but one could wish for improvements in technique.

And yesterday we got jumped by an Alsatian about the size of Peter. Turned out he was wearing a muzzle

It has to be muzzled but they let it run loose? Words fail (at least words fit for a family-friendly forum). These people ought to be reported to someone.

Actually . . . broccoli is a comfort food for me. Okay, I admit it. That’s sick.

No it's not. I love broccoli, and cauliflower, and I have some really nice little Brussels sprouts in the fridge for tomorrow: all that stuff is welcome here. People who DON'T like broccoli are sick. Smile

Yes, it is sick. I'm glad you recognize this fact at last. Smile

Dental sedation doesn't work well for everyone, I'm with Diane here! Some of us are made more ill by anesthesia than by the surgery itself; and I think Robin unfortunately falls into this category. (Literally, though I've not got time now to find the link to the story of the post-anesthesia broken wrist back on the LJ.... Smile )

Broccoli is one of my favorite vegetables! Right up there with spinach. I love to eat steamed broccoli with a little salt and lemon juice, or plain, or with salsa or gravy... And broccoli-cheddar is one of my favorite soups.

Yes... I may be a little warped, but that's ok.

Yes, when we run out of broccoli I get testy.

I think very weak tea is disgusting!!!! Smile Tea *bag*?? EWWWWWWWW. But one of the Great Truths of Civilisation is that GOOD tea DOES NOT STEW. Supposing you got the amount right for the amount of water you're using, it never does go bitter. I wouldn't leave it overnight or anything Smile but put a cosy over it and hurtle hounds? Absolutely. The tea(s) I use *has* to steep at least ten minutes or it Hasn't Developed Full Flavour.

Have to agree about reacting horribly to anesthesia. It makes me vomit every time, which was HORRIBLE two summers ago when I got my tonsils removed. Woke up with horrible pain in my throat (obviously) and immediately proceeded to get stomach acid all over the wounds (since you can't eat beforehand, it was straight stomach juices), causing me to start choking, since I couldn't use my mouth/neck muscles to deal with it properly. As much as I HATE dental/mouth/throat work, I would much rather not go under. Sorry if that was too graphic. >_<

I have to vote *nay* on the broccoli as well, though. I eat it occasionally and only when it's partially cooked. if it's anywhere near mushy it ain't gonna be eaten by me.

mmmmm, broccoli. (Though this week's fresh green veggie is chard, which does get cooked to death, then seasoned with a bit of salt, pepper, and (cider!) vinegar. omnomnomnom.)

Also, BTDT with the dry sockets from wisdom teeth extractions *mumble* decades back. *shudder*

I had the hardest time ca. 1984 trying to find an oral surgeon who would take me awake for the wisdom removal. Finally got one, had problems with the farbackness of the injections, the smell & the sound of the procedure, but the Dr got, for the first time, a patient who could comply with instructions. He liked that, and wouldn't fight another such request.

I think I only got it because there were some tricky things they didn't want me to be awake and staring at them for. Heh. Jeff was just numbed when they did his. And it sounds like that's the way most of it's done now, as long as the teeth aren't sideways or still hidden beneath the gum.

The part I *didn't* like was the pain later (obviously), and then finding out I'd been rambling (slurred and cotton-bally) for 30 minutes -- and I don't remember any of it. That is kind of freaky. Apparently I just talked about my socks the entire time, though. (Hand knit from handspun yarn. They were pretty fancy.)

I didn't have a bad reaction to the anesthesia, other than being a strung-out druggie until it all wore off--the icky part was the way my mouth felt. They sent me home with Percodan for pain but I stopped it after one dose, because I had a reaction to it. There are so many opportunities for fun in the course of dental procedures . . . Smile

I'm putting in another vote for broccoli being tasty! I don't think I would go as far as naming it comfort food...but still tasty!

I vote for it to be tasty provided that it has lots of creamy cheese and it is steamed.
