*giggle*
I love how in the first photo it appears that Darkness is saying to Chaos "Can you believe she's having a photo taken?! Let's just do clown impressions. *snigger*"

And you have room for a *sideboard* in your tower??? WOW. (That heater looks very familiar actually O.O Looks like the same one we have! haha)

LOL!

I mean, I'm laughing with you. I have also recently taken unfortunate photos of myself and posted them on my blog. (Have you seen them? They are here.) Maybe there's something in the water.

Also? I LOVE YOUR SOCKS.

Nice rug in the tower. I *like* the one where you're smiling! Smile

SNORK. I've been wondering where your new Twitter icon came from.

Ill, no. But possibly a poor judge of rugs, I make no claims there. Smile

Knowing nothing about bellringing that hasn't been posted on this blog since I started reading it, I must say that certain mostly unformed preconceptions have been smashed. Somehow, between talk of ancient towers and cobwebs, my mind has been vaguely picturing dark grey (gray?), cramped stone rooms. Brightly lit, with whitewashed walls, colorful rugs and desk-ish things were not imagined. Though perhaps the light is mostly flash. Razz

As for the bruises... I often come home with random bruises on my legs. Mostly from nervous dogs standing on them, putting way more pressure than said dog should have been able to given its size. I also frequently acquire scratches on my arms (mostly from dog nails, which are more prone to causing damage than cat nails. Cat nails are easier to avoid, mostly).

I recognize the expression in the second photo--it's the squint of someone looking into the sun while the person with the camera diddles around waiting to press the shutter button. The hellhounds simply look bored. But Jodi's right--good socks!

No sane grown up would take up something that requires this posture three times every two seconds ( . . . approximately. The other three times is the backstroke, as in the previous photo. Handstroke is when you have hold of the fuzzy striped thing).

Oh, I don't know . . . Lots of people pay money to go to gyms and put themselves into similar (or worse) postures for various numbers of repetitions. At least bell-ringing is purposeful. Smile

Oh the SOCKS! Thank you for sharing them with us. Hellhounds seem to have lost no dignity by your wearing them. I have red socks with white snowmen on them that I surreptitiously wear under long trousers and sneakers so no one can see. But I can wear them openly on Christmas.

Hmmm. Descriptions of bell ringing frighten me. I'm sure I'd end up with twenty panic attacks thinking I'd missed my turn. I'll just listen instead.

*listens* they're hard to hear from this far away...

Oh, there are plenty of small cramped stone ringing chambers around. Wink Where six ringers are elbow to elbow, or one ringer is tucked in a corner behind the clock cabinet ... or there are ladders leaning up against the wall, dusty piles of old ringing journals, cardboard boxes of wooden stays (often broken!), several wooden boxes (for height-challenged ringers to stand on) piled in a corner, and nowhere to hang your coat! Smile You probably don't see many photos of those sorts of chambers, because they are so hard to take photos in!

Yes. Listen to this woman. :) Also in this case the bell chamber is also the vestry and the church kitchen. This is a mixed blessing, since when you're ringing for an actual SERVICE the bell chamber is swarming with other people who think THEIR part in the proceedings is the ONLY IMPORTANT PART. It's the little old ladies carrying tea trays THROUGH THE ROPES that are the worst. . . .

You'll have panic attacks, all right, but not exactly from *missing* your turn. That's several to many hundred pounds of swinging bell up there, and its inertia is a hell of a lot greater than your ability to pull or check. It RINGS all right. *Your* job is to tweak the rope at the right third of a second so that it rings IN THE RIGHT PLACE.

*shudders* I hope someone's done a good risk assessment! I wouldn't want any ringers' feet to get snarled up, treading on a little old lady... Smile

Bells are REALLY, REALLY *LOUD.* There is MAJOR sound proofing between the ringing chamber and the belfry. There HAS to be. Remember NINE TAILORS?

Thanks for sharing the photos - it's fun to see C&D prepped for takeoff and neat to get a picture of the bell ringing. I too noticed the dresser type thing and the rug - so I guess questionable furniture taste is a problem when you let just anyone read your blog. Smile
