Inkheart

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0494238/

I really enjoyed it. I have not read the book, so do not know how it compares, but assuming that - as usually is the case - the book is better, I'm now really looking forward to reading it - and, of course especially, the sequels.

LOVE LOVE LOVE that book.
There are actually three: Inkheart, Inkspell, and Inkdeath. I like them all, but Inkheart is one I'll read (or listen to) over and over again. I really enjoyed the film too, but there is so much more in the book...

Apropos that, I saw this a while back:

http://splashpage.mtv.com/2011/06/28/neil-gaiman-doctor-who/

where he talks about it, thought you might be interested in it. (There is a brief mention of his B5 episode, which was why I was interested in it. Smile )

Ooo thanks Smile I really hope he writes more episodes.

And by the way, I know this is a little off topic but does anyone know if Neil Gaiman
has come out with any new books recently?

—should I ask this question somewhere else on the forum to get a better answer?

Among other things, rewatching All Creatures Great & Small:

Charming oldfashioned series, with quirky characters, both human & animal - recommended to all animal-lovers especially.

Since Eurosport is actually showing the figure skating Grand Prix this season, I've been watching that this weekend. I've been enjoying it, but I do so wish I could get the "British Eurosport guys" back, though! I love them - absolutely love them!

I'm watching Tin Man. I teach a unit on The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, and a student recommended the show as an alternative look at Oz. So far, it is very interesting.

Lark Rise to Candleford season 4.

It's really fantastic, the story is quite good even though it is not fast action and loads of
drama it gets all that across with the rich storytelling it has.

I'm afaid I am not explaining it very well at all.....
You really will just have to watch it—or read the books—for yourself, and I am sure that most of you would like it.

I thought you explained it quite well, Anna - but then, I'm already a fan. Smile I'm still desolated that they axed it, and I haven't forgiven them for it either. (But then, I'm not a generally a forgiving person - my Pathani nature, no doubt Smile - and probably won't until the temperature in the nether regions drops to a considerably lower, and unlikely, temperature... )

What I've just watched - twice - Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Part 2

I thought this was simply wonderful, and, for me, this might have been the most emotionally involving movie of them all. Don't know why - maybe because it was the last one, or the music, or the story... or whatever. But, I thought, a truly worthy ending for the series.

And I'm glad I waited to watch it on DVD, as there were several places where I was glad to be able to rewind, and listen again, before I quite understood - but I liked that complexity of it.

And, in short, I loved it. Smile

You could keep watching that movie (Inception) over and over again and still pick up many
new things you hadn't noticed before, it's brilliant.

I've been watching Cranford and Return to Cranford. I love all the old women in it, they
are so hilarious, adorable and, well, wonderful. It really is a fantastic and relaxing show to
watch Smile

I can well believe it! I've spent the morning reading up on a lot of the theories in IMDb... So what do you think re the ending?

Toggle Spoiler

I loved Cranford (it happens to be one of my all-time favourite books as well) - I haven't seen Return - yet; but it's a treat I'm really looking forward to! (I'm a bit of a miser when it comes to books & movies sometimes - I like the notion of gloating at all the pleasure in store... But unlike a money miser, I actually spend my "coin" eventually - and can do so many times over - so I think I've got the best of it. Smile )

Slowly catching up with Castle's 3rd season on DVD. It's on opposite Hawaii Five-O - being a Hawaii girl, I can't resist watching it and trying to figure out where they really are filming. Tonight's episode - McKinley High School! My in-laws' alma mater (they were classmates of Senator Daniel Inouye). And the Hawaii State Library! I used to run the Young Adult Services Section there in the mid-1990s. Hubby and I tend to pay more attention to the setting than to the action ...

I'm still watching Wire in the Blood (Season 5 now). For those of you who enjoyed Helen Mirren's Prime Suspect, I recommend it highly (but you have to enjoy police procedurals, because it is fairly graphic and realistic).

@Librarykat I know, that can be fun - recognising places. When I was addicted to watching The Amazing Race a few years back (it was an older series even then, but what did that matter?), I thought it great fun when they were in Sweden and not only went to an Ikea - but OUR Ikea - the particular shop from whence quite a lot of our furniture has come. Smile

@Angelia - If you like that kind of thing - have you seen State of Play?

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0362192/

We - my husband and I - are halfway through it, and I think it's very, very good. Though definitely gritty, I don't feel it's gratuitously so. Great acting by great actors - my favourite characters in the series are played by Bill Nighy and James MacAvoy - never a dull moment when either of them is around, and it's especially fun that they're playing father & son.

Last night I was watching 'Nature's Miracle Babies' about breed and release programs for endangered species. One of the animals featured last night (apart from the adorable Australian Bilby) was the black-footed ferret of north America. I immediately thought of Jodie's ferrets, but these ones are now out in the wilds of New Mexico dining on prairie dogs. They are so charming! Their little faces look so intelligent, and those long dark socks are to die for...

Figure skating - Euros. Though easier said than done, as not many are broadcasting it... I'll have to watch a lot of it on my computer, which is not ideal, but I'm grateful that I can watch at all!

I have a question. I am one of the three people on Earth who has never seen Dr. Who. (Yes, really!) I like to watch things from the beginning, in sequence, but there are so many Dr. Who DVDs at my library that I don't know where to start. Where is the beginning?

Thanks!
