Eep, sorry to drop the bomb on you like that. But yes, it's been canceled. This is the last season, though I think there are plans to follow it up with a movie or two like they did with SG-1.

Oh, four-letter-word. But Atlantis is doing so well!

Yeeah, I imagine they'll make movies to sew up loose ends and make the galaxy(s) safe again. And just what kind of fun is that?

It is ending! So sad.

But they have plans for Stargate: Universe. There's a premise on Wikipedia, if you're inclined to look it up. I don't care how spinny it is of a spinoff. I'm buying it.

Antiques Roadshow is the only thing I watch real-time. The rest I check out from my library on DVD: Buffy, Perry Mason, Firefly, As Time Goes By, Waiting for God, DS9, Profiler, etc.

And here I'd have guessed I was the only Perry Mason nerd on the forum. Smile TV series, or the made for TV films from the 1980's?

The TV series -- DVDs are out now for Seasons 1, 2, and the first 1/2 of 3. My husband is getting the last 1/2 of 3 for Christmas!

I had been thinking of picking them up, it's been ages since I watched them. And Best Friend From High School is now contemplating a move to the other side of the country; perhaps she and I need to have a Perry Marathon before she goes, for old time's sake!

Sounds great! My husband and I love them--and we always wonder if Della will get to eat in each show. Perry is always taking her out for food, but they get interrupted. When she brings something into the office, Paul always eats it! I like the clothes; my husband watches for the cars; and we both love the dramatic, "Yes! I killed him!" endings. Smile

Same thing happens in so many shows--like any of the Star Treks. I used to say, "See, I could fit into a catsuit too if all I got were two bites a day."

Yeah, the eating thing is a running joke in the novels as well--poor old Paul is always getting stuck eating a crappy hamburger in his office while Della and Perry go out for steak--and then a client comes up and interrupts their meal, and Della's all "Dammit, I never get a square meal when I'm with you..." Smile

I'm a fan not only of the "Yes! Yes, I killed him!!" on the witness stand, but also the really terrible day-for-night shooting anytime there's a scene "after dark"--you can always see huge shadows and things making it clear it was filmed in broad daylight and then tinted in post-production...

I remember having a conversation with Robin in the comments on her old LJ about pulp detective fiction--one of the big things about Perry Mason for me is that Della is such a good female character for that genre and era. No fainting, no screaming, no fawning over Perry. Gardner's about the only pulp author I know who writes decent women. And it translated well on the screen, Barbara Hale rocks that part--smart, funny, tough. Man. I really need to go pick up a season of that.

I'm watching Doctor Who. Over here in America without a certain channel or a dinky screen on YouTube, you can't watch Doctor Who until it comes out on Netflix or something. It's finally here! ( for me anyhow )

Yes it is the new season. And I'm getting it from Netflix. Although the wait for the first episode is rather long so I'm getting the second episode first because it has a much shorter wait, and then I'll watch the first one while everyone else will be heading for the second one.

I don't get it. Scifi channel says, "The New Season of Doctor Who next"--and then they show a rerun. When the series actually debut on TV? I don't want to hear about episodes, so I may have to go to Netflix. Argh.

Scifi WAS airing the fourth season -- what I think is what is being referred to as the "new" season, since the next real season not counting specials won't air until 2010 with a new Doctor -- I think about two weeks after they aired in the UK. Not too long after. It finished several months ago. So now all they've got is reruns. But when they say that, I'm guessing it's a rerun from the most recent fourth season, with companion Donna Noble.

That make sense? I hope? Smile

I have my DVR set to record any Doctor Who that airs (it's the number one priority listing, so it will never be skipped), and right now it's not reliably aired like it was when the episodes were new. They do seem to do little marathons fairly regularly, but which segment you're going to get is rather potshot.

The DVD boxset of season four just came out this week. So Netflix should be a fairly easy way to get it at this point (in-stock troubles aside, of course).

Yes I know! Argh is right! Netflix will have to do. It is on YouTube right now but I'm not a big fan of watching things like that on dinky glitchy screens. So Netflix may be the only rout for us, unless anyone else has any suggestions?

OK, let me get this straight--season 4 is out, but we are still expecting NEW episodes? Of what? And since Tennant is quitting, wtf? I don't get it. Are they going to wait until 2010 for the fifth season, in which we get a few episodes with Tennant and then the new doc takes over? Color me confused.

The show's lead character is currently portrayed by David Tennant. In the programme's most recent series, which ran from 5 April to 5 July 2008, Catherine Tate played the Doctor's companion, reprising her role of Donna Noble from the 2006 Christmas special. Another Christmas special, entitled "The Next Doctor" will air in 2008, followed by four more specials in 2009 and early 2010; the next full series (series 5) has been confirmed for airing in 2010. Tennant announced at the 2008 National Television Awards that after appearing in the four 2009–2010 Doctor Who specials, he will leave the role.

Thank you for this, now I understand. At least we get a few "specials" with Tennant.

I was very resistant to Tennant after Eccle--oh hell, number 9--but now, to me, I can't imagine anyone else but Tennant playing the role. But I'll give the new guy a chance. In like, a year and a half.

Christopher Eccleston - yes, I thought he was very good and was sad that he only did the one series. I like David Tennant in the role a lot but Eccleston had a sort of brooding and intense quality that I thought fitted in well.

It depends on the library system. Some don't carry very many DVDs and other do. The one I go to is pretty good about getting Doctor Who, ST, Babylon 5, etc.

And I don't mind. Smile I'm in the States on the west coast, in the Sierra Nevada Mountains.

Here's some gossip for you Doctor Who-enthusiasts: "Who door not closed, says Tennant":

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/7705775.stm

I liked the interview with him, as well.

And then some gossip on the new doctor - methinks it seems like pure speculation, but can be fun anyway:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/7699513.stm

And some more:

[url= http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/northern_ireland/7700343. stm]

And (from 1d ago) the latest:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/7739408.stm

As I said, speculation, but - oh, well!

I like Eccleston as an actor, but not so much as the doctor. It just felt like he didn't really have the right feel for me. Tennant is a fabulous Doctor, though I can totally understand him wanting to move on (for the moment at least). I seem to be alone, in that Martha has been my favorite companion of the new set. I really like that she has something to stand on by herself, that she's not entirely held up by the Doctor.
