I’m going to spend a pleasant hour or two cruising on-line plant catalogues

Looking for SERIOUSLY winter-hardy plants, right? Smile

I hope your copy editors found very little to complain about (and that you are not feeling the urge to tinker much as you read). Thanks for the snippet. I'm looking forward to fall!

If anything could make me look forward to autumn, this book's publishing would. Smile

Think I am currently at least the former, and may be the latter by the time I have finished with the surgeons. I hope you've found many esoteric plants to buy--all I have so far for my troubles is a lot of seeds and a packet of onion sets from Marshalls. The Really Interesting Stuff will come later in the spring. I am awaiting Heucheras Key Lime Pie and Purple Petticoats, among others for the new Acer/Heuchera border. The Wanton Toast Eating husband will have to plant them, though, as I shall be terminally unbendable for months. Am sending virtual G and B to assist with the eye-watering Pegasus work. And licks from the Desk Dog to the hellhounds.

Please add me to the list of people waiting not-so-patiently (but full of hope and good wishes for you) for The Book.

(I don't suppose you'd like to write a TUNE for the lullaby? In your spare time, of course. I'd like to sing it to family babies and then fly them.)

Delicious!

I might find snippets more maddening than horrifying cliff-hanger endings and another year to wait for the sequel! And since my Outcome-based Evaluation textbook is not going to cut it as a distraction tonight it looks like I will have to go pull out Chalice instead.

I hope you've had a productive day editing. Smile

As long as you aren't currently teaching my course, I'm okay with that. If you are secretly my prof, I would like you to know that I am on top of that paper rewrite -- just stretching my fingers.

February is nice as the days are noticeably longer; it was actually dawn when we left the house just after 7:00 this morning. I agree, the weather could be better. But autumn - the days are getting shorter, and darker, and the colours are fading from the land. Just, no.

(And I have seen the first daffodils on sale in the street market - spring is coming, it's coming, it's coming, I tell you! Spring!!!!)

Grump. I don't believe you. Even though the yard was full of very noisy squawking robins yesterday. We have robins all winter anyway. Grump. I'm tired of being COLD. And I don't want to even think about my rent-house's gas bill this month.

But thanks much for the snippet.

It's the way the dark starts encroaching. I know there can be lots of lovely days in autumn but in my mind they're all coloured by the knowledge that each one will be shorter and darker than the preceding one. My in-built solar panels start suffering extreme input deficit. I agree January and February are trying, but at least we're on our way back into the light then. Smile

Before I had a dog, autumn was my favorite season, but the experience of daily cross-country walks has radically altered my perception. Now, faced with the choice between mud, deerflies, and snow, I actually like winter best. We usually get a few glorious days of crisp air and blazing foliage in the autumn that are far and away the best of the year, but overall, I've come to really love the crunchy-clean cold of deep winter.

We don't have robins all winter, but there was one out in a tree last week, in the snow, looking seriously discontent. I can't imagine what it was doing in Minnesota in January. It will have more sense than to stick around next winter, I'm sure.

Oh, yes! It's such a lovely text. And how about that ballad about the sweet green land? (But only after you're done with A Pox Upon Their Heads, of course.)(Yes, we do know about all the spare time you have for taking song commissions . . .)

There's a reason why one of our major Australian poems refers to a "sunburnt country" and dusty plains.... LOL A sweet green land sounds nice!!

Oh yes, spring! Even if it's chilly, the birds and squirrels are excited. There's that feeling in the air - I just know that the trees are secretly planning leaves and that there'll be more crocuses every time I turn around.

My daughter asked if I could start some flowers for her friend's wedding on my light tray. Just when I was trying to trim my own list to fit. Looks like this year I'll be growing white flowers in that sunny patch.

Spring? Spring? The (winter) birds around here seem pretty sure it'll never show up. I did see some Canada geese flying the other day, but otherwise I don't think spring will show up here for a good month or more. (Real spring doesn't usually show up until April.)

Yep. Signs of spring here too: daffodil leaves poking up--trying to keep my and hellhounds' big fat feet AWAY from them where they're as it's called naturalised which is to say IN DANGER--and my first splurge of snowdrops are out, although this is late for first snowdrops.

LOL! It's actually one reason I *stay* in Indiana--for all my complainer-pants-ing, I really do enjoy having a good solid WINTER. I can wait another 2 months for bulbs. Smile We're supposed to finally get some snow this weekend, and I'm childishly excited at the prospect.

My brother, after being based in the South after Vietnam, said he wanted to live where there were four seasons. One of us must be adopted. Four seasons? Fine. So long as the snow and ice season lasts two weeks.
