Well done Black Bear. You're now well on your way. The step from intent to execution is the hardest one to take (I should know, it took me over three months )
Bonnie, I have have just realised that I omitted the first step of any craftperson's routine: measure twice, cut once. I remembered the 13x13 and I remembered the extra inch for the inseam, unfortunately in the wrong order so mine is 14x14. Facepalm! Oh, well, any extra bits can just be tucked away in the seams. You'd think I'd know better, wouldn't you? So would I.

I'm actually short in one dimension.... it's long enough, but not wide enough... however, the fabric I had my heart set on using didn't have any wider sections on this piece. So, I'm going to sew it down to some backing before I send it off. It is coming along nicely though (even if I do keep sighing because I think it looks messy while I'm working on it).

i have been thinking about what kind of pattern to put the squares in because they are each so unique.i think i have found one that will show each square's uniqueness but i will have to wait until i have them all and lay them out in front of me to see if it will work the way i want it to.

I'm getting excited about this project. The rose border seems to be pleasing everyone who sees it ... and if it doesn't work for the quilt I have uses for it here ...

wait wait wait--
an inch of seam allowance on all sides would mean a 14 x 14 block, no? 12", plus 1" to either side? So do you mean a half inch all around, making it 13 x 13 total?
I'm sorry, I'm a bit math challenged which means in my case it's measure three times, scribble on a bit of paper, frown a lot, and then cut. I just want to make sure I've got it right. I screwed up my recent pair of moccasins beyond repair, I think, and leather's less forgiving (and more expensive) than fabric...

Good. Both that you got it and that the shortbread will assist!

I put in a rather large order of cross stitch stuff on an online store last night, (enough for one big project, plus fabric and thread for another plus a load of stuff I didn't need but just wanted anyway*)
I'm now waiting on tenterhooks for it to arrive. I foolishly mentioned on another forum that "I won't need to buy any more stitching stuff for years!"
Response was "Yes I've said that often to myself over the years."
Why do I think this is the voice of experience?
* Gold needles! Thread organisers! Thread Heaven! Annoyingly I forgot to order thread cards, but will get some cardboard and make my own.
