Party time!

News from the different hemispheres indicates that many of us are either way too hot or way too cold at the moment. In the northern hemisphere we're also fed up with the long dark. So to get away from all that we're going to be throwing a party in here this coming Saturday (17 Jan) and would like to invite everyone - and particularly any members just arrived, or who haven't posted a message yet - to come in, share some virtual party food or drinks (recipes/pics), music or silly games or funny stories, even views of your partying pets or favourite dressing up clothes. This would also be a good time to talk with anyone you haven't met yet.

The party will be thrown open here from 2100 hours New Zealand local time (which is GMT +13 hours or EST +18 hours) on Saturday, so dust off your contributions and your dancing shoes and join in whenever you're in the mood. We will close the party doors after 36 hours, as by that time everyone is likely to need a bit of sleep and there'll be a stack of washing-up to do! Very Happy

I'm the first here it seems...

Hello everyone!

I don't know quite what's wanted, but here is a little Indian dance & song

courtesy of the film Ganga Jamuna. A village function - does it need any other explanation? If so - let me know!

I can't decide - which one of these should I wear?

Or maybe the pearl and diamond 'jacket' visible if you scroll down a bit here?

Not sure I'd be terribly warm in that, it looks a bit drafty!

Very Happy

Should we imagine you dancing round your flat, LRK, to the tune from this? Smile

Well, you could! I probably have danced to it - although it was a while ago... To that particular tune, I mean. Dancing used to be one of my hobbies, and I did some of it Thursday evening - I have yet to recover...

The pearl jacket does seem a bit drafty... Smile

Unfortunately, Tabbs is too comfortable where she is at the moment. I hope to get her up and joining in later. And Southdowner said she would be dropping by with some 'party dogs' pictures.

Any party pictures of Birmans? Smile

I love dancing to this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=92GrCKfhUHs

and this

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CxoEUDGa5Hs

and... I could snoop around some more on Youtube (she said threateningly).

And there are lots of sad songs... about loneliness... (long, deep sigh) But I suppose we don't want that? Smile

Ooooo, what a lovely picture of Tabs! I first now realised there was a link - silly me!

Oh, dear, I was thinking about taking a nap on the sofa (dancing is tiring work), but Sassi has had the same idea - and she isn't likely to want to share...

Hello Melissa
Allow me to offer you a little smoked salmon, or would you prefer some strawberry cake?

Maybe better wait until we've stopped dancing for a moment...Smile L.R.K. is already exhausted!

Mmmm - strawberry cake! Lovely!

Tea anybody? Or if somebody wants something cooler I have - not cider, but "ciderkaraktär" - really lovely; I've got raspberry/peach (my favourite) and plain apple... Anybody want some?

For feline guests - I don't know if Sassi would share in reality, but she shouldn't mind if it's in, er, virtuality - smoked turkey? (Sassi's passion) There are also olives if there are any cats out there who'd like them. Sassi guarantees that they are excellent.

Cake please, thank you!

The only (edible) thing I can cook is chili. Anyone want some? I figure it's good on a cold day.

Gouda (a feline) would love some smoked turkey, thank you. Especially if delivered to her "right in front of the fire" armchair.

Would anyone else like a mug of hot chocolate? It's still frightfully cold here. If I had a functioning stove I'd make a lovely plate of Canadian Shortbread to go with it.

That sounds lovely - is the recipe anything like this? Would it help if we came over and helped you get the stove working...Smile

The chilli sounds good too, mind you. I think I need some more dancing or I'm not going to get into my next outfit!

I brought the ferrets. They wanted to bring their toys, of course.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3039/2579557694_2feb90f71b.jpg?v=0

Just watch where you step. They like to get underfoot. Or crawl up your leg when you're not expecting.

Also!

*whips sheet off table to reveal feast*

There's pie, cake, all kinds of chocolate. Just grab a plate and fork and serve yourself. Be polite and don't breathe on everyone else's food.

Well you seem to be getting down! AJLR, now if I only had photoshop skills your head would be on those bodies with the outfit in question! LRK I am grooving along with you and shaking my bootie! I might be late, but I come bearing gifts: Have some ekmek kaimaki (don't worry if you have a dairy allergy it is buffalo cream on top and it is luscious!):
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3127/3203637853_fd8c47d8c4.jpg

and some syropiasta. I went specially to get them from a special shop just for the party. Forgive me if I had a bit before getting here.

Oh, chocolate of course. But I also love cheesecake, which we happen to have right on that table. *points*

*puts on tango music* *hands out long-stemmed roses (without thorns, of course)*

Susan, those treats look fantabulous. I think I will have one of everything. (Thank goodness these are virtual calories.)

Water buffalo - from the last herd in Greece kept just for making these sweets! Just for you! Dry or semi-sweet for you Shelly? After the tango, some down and dirty R&B? I give Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings: I heard her live this summer. Definitely bump and grind music!

Thank you! Smile

Of course still being totally digital camera-illiterate I can't show any photos... I have a few really nice outfits - one that I have never worn (and quite possibly can't squeeze into!) in white and dark orange with absolutely lovely beadwork... My husband bought it for me the last time he was in Pakistan and it's beautiful! (A husband with good taste is a blessing Smile )

I'll play some jigs and reels that y'all can dance to. And I brought some (hot) cinnamon rolls.

Could I have a mug of that hot chocolate, please? And a bowl of chili, if there's any left? It's pretty cold here, too.

This is what I'm wearing.

AJLR: The best way to get your earrings back from Suzi is to follow her. This usually involves crawling. But you'll find the stash eventually. Just ignore the food crumbs and see if there's anything else she's stolen. I'm sure people will notice more of their belongings missing before the party's over...
