Oh, goody, a new Kes for my birthday.

But that's a rather worrying place it leaves off. I guess the food and smiles are behind us now.

Nothing articulate to say, just random flailing encouragement: go Kes! You tell 'em what's what! (Not that it'll probably do much good, but whatever.)

I'm totally with Kes on the 'second time is worse than the first' feeling, for major life experiences. Ignorance is very soothing. Smile

I agree. It's much easier to be brave while ignorant.

So glad Kes and Monster had that bonding moment. So glad she's now in something more substantial than a flimsy nightgown, and that Monster's been glued back together with plant glue. And she's had food, and even though it's worse when you know what's coming she's seeming more...together...

Robin, I love what you write, and I always have! This latest Kes installment was such a strong reminder of some of what I like so much about your writing. The strong connection between people (characters) has always drawn me, and this brief exchange between Kes & Murac elicits another soul-deep Yes! from me.

And this...
Quote:

All the whinnying stuff you get in movies is Hollywood, it’s not horses. Horses are mostly pretty quiet. It’s a big deal if your horse whinnies at you, and it’s probably because he’s hungry and hoping for food. But Monster turned his head—whoever was leading him was hidden on his far side, I could just see an arm through a loop of rein—and while he didn’t whinny, he put his ears forward and his nostrils flickered in an almost-whinny. Defender and Defender’s horse having a bonding moment. Monster clearly didn’t know that he outclassed his rider by about half a gazillion parsecs.
Yes!! YES!!! My boy doesn't talk much in general, and when he does, it's generally connected to "you're late with food!"; but he has occasionally checked in with me with the ears and nostril flicker. I love that description of it! And my guy also outclasses his rider by a fair bit. Smile

Thank you! Thank you, thank you, thank you. It has been a grim couple of weeks, but this is a HUGE lift to my spirits...a glimpse of allies. And Sid.

Before I read EMoon's, I was starting the exact same way. Thank you, thank you, thank you! Only now I'm twice as confused as before. Sigh

!!! Thirding the "thank you"s, of course! It's lovely to see Sid and Watermelon Shoulders and the hob again (the revelation that it is a rude hob is somehow delightful), though I hope they all get a rest soon.

Anyone else wondering, now, if the "you" through whom we experience the Falcons' portion of the story is also the person they mention here? Too busy to read back through for clues. Honestly too busy to be commenting, but new KES is a worthy cause of procrastination.

Oh, so many developments to the plot and the characters here! It's very exciting, and it's tantalizing too!

Yay! Sid!
But I'm somewhat nervous for Kes.... since there is obviously a game of chess here with someone else in control...
(Or maybe I'm worried because I know what writers like doing to their characters.... Wink )

“And Sid . . .” she paused. “Sid, my dear love, my darling, we are counting on you. Our victory—or our defeat—depends, finally, on you.”

As with everyone else I'm thrilled to have a new episode, but this made me tear up for some reason.

Hurrah for a new KES and for the reappearance of Sid and for the news of how important Sid is to the great scheme of things! I appreciate Kes's honesty and her courage in spite of all.

Hmmm... I love these hints of more story beyond the story.

*happy sigh*

One of these days, I'm going to get around to putting all these chapters (chapterettes?) into one file and just read straight through. While I was reading it my mind kept going "Wait, is that Caedmon the stove talking to the Lady in the guise of 'the big man with the bloody sword'"? Unless Watermelon shoulders stayed...

Must re-read.

Some days I really hope that this story would tell you “write me NOW – I want to be published and read in my full length. (NOW!)” (Was this an extraordinary short episode?)

Important and very serious question; I do not seem to remember from last year, but does this nice and wellbehaved forum have the equivalent of a Christmas stocking? Something to put extra words in, perhaps?

I thought about KES the other day and the insta-translate she had going. I was watching first episode of a new series on Netflix and I was thinking that this was bad indeed, but I found their wording of the plot rather refreshing. They were all searching for a cub, an immoral cub, and I found this could potentially be interesting, both how the immorality would play out and the fact that it was referred to in beastly terms. Would that matter in context of immorality? Well, I watched, it did not improve, but I learned that not only was the cub immoral, it was also immortal. Finally, someone with spitting credentials entered the stage and wheezed “…immortal CUP!” (KOOPHPHPH)

OH.

To end this on a really sinister note. I was breakfasting with my little sister recently (we were talking in Danish, but using drop in English terms, because), she was telling me about an English novel (“How to build a girl”) she was reading and referred to women as ‘the male gays’. As she continued her elucidations I was silently wondering about the use of the term male gays. Why would women look at themselves as male gays and did anyone look at themselves as female gays – did men? And how would that work most women being secret male gays with their lovers. I asked her to explain. She looked incredulous at me, stating that this was a common trope in literature. I shook my head. Never heard about it. So she began to explain, still looking at me as if I had lost a marble, but humoring me and my blank spaces. Male GAZE. (GAAAYYYZZZZZZZZZZE)

I need to be taken to Engineering.
