Not all divorce lawyers are bad/evil/venal. My hubby spent one year in private practice, during which he handled a number of divorce cases. He wasn't afraid to tell a client if he was being an idiot for divorcing a faithful wife because he had a new, younger honey, or to tell a faithful wife being divorced by a stupid husband to stand up for her rights. None of these stupid husbands were wealthy, of course, but they were still trying to get out of their marriages and leave their wives with absolutely nothing.
During that one year, his boss didn't always pay him, and then the secretary absconded after clearing out the office accounts. Hubby still has not received something like four months' salary, but we figure after more than 30 years, he never will.
But I still understand Kes's situation with Mr. Wolverine.

I am contemplating moving to Maine: should I be taking notes, or checking in to a padded cell?

Having been sick for a week, I missed Kes 60 on its appearance, and was thrilled to find it today when I could finally crawl in here, turn on the computer, and hit the right keys to get to Robin's blog. (I made one or two earlier attempts, and sort of faded off the chair after staring blankly at the blank monitor for awhile.)
Good dog, Sid. Come ON, Kes, trust Sid, who's clearly got sense. Have done that drill (sort of--not divorced, but moving w/o spouse because he couldn't leave yet.) Buck up and get your stuff out there, quick as you can. You don't stop until all the boxes are in the new place and you've left just enough floor to lay the sleeping bag on. I clearly remember driving back and forth between two Texas cities (about 80 miles one way) in a not-too-old Rambler stuffed to the gills with stuff. Lots and lots and lots of boxes of books. Two Folbots (one folded up in the trunk, and one on top of the car)...OK, there were two of us, but it was still a "Start at dawn and don't stop until everything's under cover in the new place." We did hire someone to haul the refrigerator ($25, out of someone's garage), beds, and mattresses and two chairs and a loveseat.

I love that Kes is making connections with people. That's reassuring, even though I suspect things won't stay nearly so grounded going forward (I'm talking to you, Watermelon Shoulders and Mr. Melmoth).

Yay! Another Kes! With muffins!
I don't like the sound of the landlord's cousin across the lake with a tick-like nature and a fancy old car...bet he's a snoop. Maybe Sid will bite him, and something dire will fall out of his pocket and prove he's a serial killer.

It's such a wonderful feeling, of an evening, to find a new Kes episode posted on the Robin McKinley blog.
(And, by the by, I already have no idea how you both keep up with your busy and engaging life AND blog about it, so any reduction in blog posts will be met with support and understanding from this reader.)

When she caught my eye she went up on her hind legs, pawing briefly at the air, more graceful than any three Lipizzaner stallions with Trigger thrown in for good measure, but I admit I might be prejudiced.
I think we're all prejudiced in Sid's favour, too.
Also, Bridget would be a disaster for my waistline, but I'd love her anyway.
