Here is where you can talk about what you're reading right now. If you particularly enjoyed a book and would like to recommend it to other readers, just say so and I will add it to our LibraryThing catalog.

Anthony Horowitz: "Ark Angel" - The sixth Alex Rider book.

Why, I feel all thin, sort of stretched, if you know what I mean, like butter that has been scraped over too much bread.

Smile I'm up to Tom Bombadil, and I'm really enjoying the leisurely pacing so far - but also, I think, it enhances the feeling of dread too, as it feels all the more unnatural, and creepy, with the Ring- er, so far, Black Riders, in this otherwise generally cosy, "normal" and "sane" environment. When they discover that even the Shire isn't safe any more, you know?

My husband got me the newest Zafón novel, The Prisoner of Heaven, for my birthday. Wonderful book! He also bought me an Unberto Eco novel, but I haven't started it yet.

I agree with you about the beginning parts of LoTR. I love Bombadil and the scene with the barrow wights--the hobbits are still on their own at that point, and we see them facing challenges and dangers they never imagined--alone.

After reading this thread, I'm having to resist a strong urge to visit the Tolkien section of my bookshelves. Wink I'm enjoying Orhan Pamuk's The Black Book, so I'll see it to the end before I give in.

I've got the first four "Merrily Watkins" books by Phil Rickman on my Kindle for free, and they are good enough I am considering buying at least the next one Wink
