I'm up to Tom Bombadil, and I'm really enjoying the leisurely pacing so far - but also, I think, it enhances the feeling of dread too, as it feels all the more unnatural, and creepy, with the Ring- er, so far, Black Riders, in this otherwise generally cosy, "normal" and "sane" environment. When they discover that even the Shire isn't safe any more, you know?
Why, I feel all thin, sort of stretched, if you know what I mean, like butter that has been scraped over too much bread.
