All right, I VANISHED for about nine months (no, not that kind of nine months) and I think I'm back -- and happy to be here! I don't remember what I was last time I was here, but I'm currently eighteen, a college sophomore (history and opera major), McKinley reader for half of this lifetime, and proposed writer of magic realist short fictions. We'll see about that one.

Hello! I've just discovered this thread after posting randomly around the forums. Thought I'd say Hi!
Like most others on these forums, I'm a keen reader, although I don't get through nearly as many books these days (middle-age, alas) as I used to when I was younger. Back then, I used to (inwardly) scoff at those who said they didn't find the time for reading as much any more. My feeling used to be that REAL readers FOUND the time. Now ... well, I still find SOME time, just not as much as before.
I like gardens, and having a nice garden, and some parts of actual gardening (mowing the lawn is always soothing), but being a bit lazy I prefer sitting in my garden to terribly active gardening. I. CAN'T. BEAR. SLUGS!!!
I decided to be Mockorange on the forums because a) I like the plant for itself, and b) the one in my parents' garden was always in full bloom on my birthday, so there are multiple pictures of me throughout my childhood, teens, twenties and thirties, standing in front of the mockorange for my 'official' birthday photograph.
Alas, my parents moved from that house about 10 years ago now and their new mockorange, carefully selected from the nursery, although a large and vigorous shrub, only puts out a pitiful handful of flowers each year. Still, I have my own mockorange now so I can't complain.

Hi! I'm a newly reactivated member--I've been reading the blog for several years and I used to have an account, but then I didn't log in regularly enough so it got deleted...but now I have this new account and am striving to be a little more active in the forum so that it stays activated! I just found this thread and thought I'd say hello. I'm a very happily married US Air Force wife, reader, writer, gluten-free baker (I have celiac) and video gamer.
I first found Robin McKinley's work when I was 12 or so, browsing the Newbery Honor shelf at the library. I picked up this book and looked at the cover and knew instantly that it was going to be fabulous: GIRL WITH A SWORD. AND IT'S BLUE (favorite color). And there's a horse! I think all 12-year-old girls are a little horse-crazy. Well I devoured it, and that led me to HERO, and then all the rest.
When I was going to Brigham Young University studying English, I took a Creative Writing: Sci-fi/Fantasy class from Brandon Sanderson (MISTBORN, WHEEL OF TIME conclusion, etc.). Once while he was giving a lecture on balancing world-building without info-dumping, I thought of SPINDLE'S END and mentioned to him that it seemed like Robin McKinley broke many of his "rules" and still came out with a successful, enthralling book.
He said, simply, that Robin McKinley was an exception to the rules and that we shouldn't hope to get the same results as her. Sorry, just thought that was funny and worth sharing.

Hi, all! Obviously, I'm new here, so I thought I would give a 'hello!' The first book I read by Robin was The Hero and the Crown, and I have been reading her books ever since. I just recently finished Pegasus, and I can't wait for the second book! (Wow, what a cliff hanger!) On the back flap of the book is where I discovered Robin had a blog, and therefore a forum. I couldn't resist checking it out, so here I am!

Thank you for the welcome, Sarah. And yes! It is Skip Beat! ^_^
Oh. I honestly don't know if I could choose just one!
I love the Hero and the Crown. The Blue Sword is probably my favorite from that series though. I can't pick which book I like more between Rose Daughter and Beauty. I have yet to read Spindles End. Deerskin was wonderful! I am very much so into Pegasus right now though. Ebon is so fantastic!

Hi, I'm Ringlets I've been lurking for a while but I thought I'd better hunt down an intro thread before I post.. so here I am .
I'm married, live in the UK (although I would prefer Italy!), and we have horses and kitties (which is sortof what my job is - looking after them, and hubby of course ) . My hobbies are reading , writing, drawing, painitng, horse riding, travel, photography, cooking, collecting stuff ... i have lots of hobbies really *blush*
I only recenlty discovered Robins books when my best friend sent me a copy of Deerskin in September. It has been one of her fave books for years, and she thought I might like it. I did! I thought it was awesome and so I've read my way through most of Robins other books over the last couple of months and have a pile of them on my bedside table. Its hard to pick a fave, although I just finished Chalice , and that has to be one of my faves for sure.
Ok.. I think I talk to much, and now I have to figure out how to post an avvie and use smilies and everything.. (computers are soo not my strong point , and my laptop is a dinosaur!), so bye for now!

Hello, I'm Carafin!
I don't really know what to post here...
I'm a fan of Robin's work (obviously!), and I also enjoy reading other fantasy, Regency period romance, children's picture books, manga, and lots of other genres!
Other things I do: I like knitting(scarves!)! I have planted some things in the space behind my tiny apartment (I'm not sure if that counts as gardening, because I don't know if they'll survive). I do a bit of bouldering (indoors). Whenever I get the chance I go ballroom or salsa dancing!
Right now I'm teaching English in Japan. Following the blog (especially Kes) gives me my McKinley fix, since I was foolish and brought only two of her books with me; (halfway around the world, mind you, but still...) I should have made room for all of them...
Nice to (sort of) meet you!
