Seconding "Wonderful Kes!"
Though with the warning of signing something in blood, I was kind of hoping for a rose thorn, or a small scrape from Caedmon (my fault, from the kind of fiction I write.)
The person fencing with the computer mouse, though...with the others being friendly and helpful, is this the Grouch or Grinch who's going to tell whatsisface that Kes made off with one of his rosebushes? Or does she know something about the mysterious appearance of giant stoves that she's not telling? Or is she going to report Kes to the nearest chapter of the God-hates-fantasy-fiction-writers association and have crosses burned on her lawn? Or, as with the appearance of Sally initially, just another misunderstood person who is right now battling with a recalcitrant insurance company on behalf of her chronically sick child?
These are impertinent questions and I will wait patiently, handed folded in my lap, until such time as more Kes is revealed. (Actually, that's a lie. I will knit in a determined manner, secretly coding comments no one will ever decipher and which will not lead anyone to the guillotine, between bouts of reading Kes and wiggling gleefully in my chair.) (The coded comments are indecipherable by the even the best cryptographers because they are mistakes...they can be read only by other knitters, who will point them out gleefully: "Dropped a stitch there, didn't you--oh, and look, that was supposed to be a purl and you knitted it; you got off count on your ribbing. Mm...and a slipped stitch, hon, that's what made that cute little hole right on top of your foot....)

I'm so pleased I stayed up that little bit extra, I got rewarded with bedtime Kes! The Gelasio memory was bittersweet, chap clearly got some things right, even if he got one thing very wrong indeed.
I love that Kes is scared of cows, on the other side of the fence they're alright but I've always been scared on the rare occasions I've been on the same side of the fence as they are (deer in the deer park, when surprise encountered at close range are even scarier, see: antlers).
The bit about the bookstore, fondling books is totally the way to do it. You need to get a bit personal before you decide to take one home and, inevitably, to bed, with you. I look forward to Kes checking back and discovering the mental state of the owner.
And, could it be? Silent wonder dog? And 'she,' of course.
Today has been an excellent day, thank you for ending it on such a delightful note!
Cath
Oh, and you lot, four and a half knitting-free years and you've made me fall off the wagon. On Friday I acquired the beginnings of a stash. Aargh! (in a good way)

I'd have opted for boysenberry, too.
Kes's self-editing of her email made me smile, the difference between what you want to say and what the other person can cope with hearing!
And the tea cosy dog, I'm not surprised by that after the dragon that liked to be stroked, but I am loving the way she interacts with 'inanimate' objects, and how they interact with her. I do wonder if the SWD is now stalking her on tea cosies, though...
