I have never seen a pattern (or an actual object) for a mug cosy that's like a pot cosy only smaller, but quite probably I could work something out for you. I've made a few of the wrap-around sort myself, but this sounds more intriguing! Do you like your cosies with openings for handles, or all-encompassing? (My tea pot cosy has slits for handle and spout so you don't have to take it off to pour, but my mother uses the other kind.) What size of a mug is standard?

I haven't seen a tea cosy type one - I just did the easy beginner thing and did a basic rectangular swatch and then fastened a button etc to it. *g* (In pink.)

Wouldn't the steam from the hot tea in the mug be a problem? Or will you be using the cosy over a mug with a lid?

Leandra sounds like a gem, and just the sort of ringer you want on your side in your new tower.

My mind still goes blank. But sometimes it comes back. Sometimes it even comes back bringing the blue line of the method we are (theoretically) ringing with it.

Oh, this makes me smile! I recognise this feeling so well. Smile

Re the mug cosy. If you work from an egg cosy pattern like these http://emsknits.blogspot.co.uk/2007/04/egg-cosies.html http://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-knit-a-proper-egg-cos y-for-a-Faberge-egg/ but use chunky yarn instead of DK and twice the size needles that might work...?

And I know Robin said exact instructions but this tea cosy pattern http://www.sugarncream.com/pattern.php?PID=6187&cps=2191 1 is basically just 2 squares, so would just need to knit smaller squares, and you then have the option to leave gap on one side only for the mug handle.

In fact, that gathering at the top idea could be used to make a very simple pattern which just requires knitting a rectangle...

If you wanted an all enclosing cozy - couldn't you knit (on circular needles so that there is no sewing) a stocking doll hat and make it taller? I know that would work with a crochet pattern, but I am a totally hopeless knitter.

Maybe each of their packers uses a different color tape and they want to know who to blame?
