...and I had started planting gladiolas. Which are not hardy.

I love gladiolas. They're so big and bright and they smell divine and you get a load of flowers on just one big stem. And I have just discovered that they are one of the varieties of bulbs that can be grown in the humid heat where I live, so perhaps I shall have some of my own someday! (Of course, what the professionals think is growable here might not be the same as what I can grow here.)

My glads were gorgeous, (and attracted hummingbirds!) but they had no scent. I didn't know they ever did.
