That extra hour in bed this morning wouldn’t have done me that much good since Crunching Driveway Gravel at 7 a.m. on Weekdays Man across the road started his frelling leaf blower at about 9.
We live in an area where houses are on 2-3 acres with lots of trees dropping LOTS of leaves*, so the sound of power garden tools is commonplace, but people are generally very good about not waking up the world with their mowers, blowers, chain saws, etc. Even the inconsiderate Morons with Dogs next door are good about it. We're lucky.
* I finally broke down and bought a leaf blower this year. A rake does not do a fast or particularly good job in rocky areas, and if I trash my hands raking I won't be able to knit. I got an electric one, which will be attached to a VERY LONG extension cord. Since a leaf blower doesn't have a blade, I feel that it's within my competence to use it without risking serious blood loss or electrocution.

Practise Friday night, still muffled, was extremely odd, with the good ringers shrieking themselves silly at us poor lost adrift nongood ringers as we attempted to ring methods, not merely call changes . . .
And not merely methods, but methods changing place every handstroke!! Cambridge!!! Aaarghhh!! My brain was in meltdown by the end.
Still, half muffled ringing, done well, is a wonderful sound.
And as for your cracking QP of Stedman Triples, I reckon you want it to sound like this . (Start listening at about 1:15, as they go from rounds into the method).

Yup. And there I was, yesterday morning, trebling away to a touch of Reverse Canterbury Doubles, trying to listen even harder than normal in order to catch the muffled sound (though ours does sound more musical than a thud) while keeping a hawk-ish gaze on the progress of the tenor's sally as a marker. The church was absolutely stacked to the rafters, as well. It was an honour to ring.

I'm very glad to hear that things are improving for you. Btw, had you seen this? It's making me itchy just thinking about it.
