I'm dithering over whether it's ethical to order cheap books on Amazon, meanwhile there are thousands of people who see no problem with illegally "sharing" music and ebook files?? Oy.

I've seen the Composer vs. Misguided Teen link before, and it always makes my head explode. The logic of "you should be happy I'm stealing your work, since it means lots of people will find out about you and buy your stuff" never ceases to amaze me. Especially since they conveniently forget that all those other people will probably just steal themselves a copy. "Flames. Flames on the side of my face...."

On a happier note, I often find my voice lessons both physically and mentally tiring. At least, if I'm doing it right I do! Smile I once left a voice lesson with my abs feeling like I'd been doing crunches and my brain feeling like it was leaking out my ears. Sadly for my singing technique, those days are still few and far between.

And some friends of mine and I once half-jokingly kicked around the idea of opening a yarn store with a cafe in it. Perhaps I should suggest a fact-finding mission to Mauncester to brainstorm ideas for our own shop. Wink

I'm drooling over the Botticelli sweater. It's gorgeous! I learned how to knit in Junior High, but because I learned how to crochet first, it didn't stick very long. I've got to revisit knitting.

On a semi-related note, I was completely insane last week and decided to crochet a sweater in three days. When I finished, my first thought was "why didn't I do this last week so I could post it for Robin's give-away? Yarn, dress-ups, literary figures - perfect!" So, I'm going to post the link here anyway.

Good for Rachel Vincent for spelling things out very clearly in her posts on ePubBud. Based on the tone of most of the other posts, I suspect she might as well be talking to the proverbial tree stump, but at least she's willing to try. Maybe the book business needs a few well-publicized legal actions against pirate sites to get people's attention.

There are too many knitting books in this world.

Well, yeah. A couple of them are on their way to my house this month. How can I start making socks without a sock book, after all? Smile And there it was today at fifty percent off. Yup, same with the sock book. That's why it's being joined by a colorwork reference. Smile Smile

...a yarn store with a cafe in it.

Which is one of the reasons I like both Nest (in Crouch End) and IKnit (in Waterloo) - Nest serve tea and coffee and home-made cakes to their knitters (and have comfy chairs and sofas to sit on while knitting), and IKnit have an alcohol licence! Not that I drink the stuff... But on their knit-nights (Wednesday and Thursday), they also do tea and coffee, if you ask Coral nicely.

Quote:

One major disappointment about method ringing is that there aren’t nearly enough books about it.

Quite so! My shelf of ringing publications contains only 10 items at the moment, at the end of 15 months of learning to ring, and a few of those items are booklets rather than books. Mind you, some of my fellow ringers look at me slightly nervously when I go to home tower practise waving another new one. Smile

I haven't seen any ringing publications with gorgeous coloured illustrations, though Michael Foulds' booklet on how to learn methods has some lovely snarky cartoons in it. Smile

Yes, that sort of stare can be really piercing, can't it! One can feel it between the shoulderblades... Smile

I suppose this is the wrong time to introduce you to the interweave knits publisher/line/resource? (that is, if you haven't found it already) http://www.interweavestore.com/
my favorites are the "101 stitches to knit", "lace and eyelets", "knit and purl" and "colorwork stitches", "cables & arrans". They don't have patterns, but for the Make It Up As You Knit Along knitter, they're wonderful resources. They have some good sales every so often, but my favorite is when they sell their backlog of flawed books. These are the books that came off the press/bindery with imperfections. They generally sell them for 75% off.

SEBBEN CRUDELE! I learned that! Robin, rejoice in the fact that you are behind a fourteen-year-old (me) in your Italian-learning. Very Happy

Robin, you've actually mentioned that teenager vs artist link before... http://robinmckinleysblog.com/2010/07/05/the-day-after-the-d ay-before/

Anyhow. I am avoiding the knitting books section of the bookstore because I already have too many cookbooks, and I don't need a section of how-to-knit books taking up shelfspace. At least there is a lot of great information online about knitting... not that there isn't of cooking too, but I've been collecting cookbooks for longer.

I also need to learn to crochet. For anybody who is a fan of Japanese anime (esp Ghibli films)... http://heavens-hellcat.livejournal.com/420.html (scroll to the bottom for photo). Knitting is enough for now though.
