Yes. There is that. Heh.

Which color did you get? I see a few likely looking greens on the site. (Also, pet it for me?)

IT IS AMAZINGLY PETTABLE. ::Pet, pet, pet:: I mean, yarn *is*. It's one of the ways it frelling SUCKS YOU IN. Hey! I'm a critter too! PET ME! --And you do. But some is like . . . is like . . . is like . . .

Smile

I'm *fairly* sure it's Ceres. It doesn't actually SAY!! for some reason. But I think I remember the other two greens it might be at the shop, and one is emerald and one is aqua. And then there's this one. Which is THE YARN I WAS ABSOLUTELY LOOKING FOR.

Ooh, I really like the Cerers. That is beautiful. Does it have a number on the label? Usually if you can't find the name, the number will tell you which one it is. (And there's a number on the site for Cerers. It's 6792.)

Some yarn is definitely more pettable than others. And it's soooo easy to become even more of a snob. Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Lovely yarn, beautiful color. I haven't bought any Manos, but my yarn shop carries Malabrigo yarns, also from Uruguay, and amazingly reasonably priced. I was lusting after some of their variegated superwash merino the other day and was saved from buying it only because there wasn't enough in the colorway I wanted. I will just have to wait until the next batch comes in. Smile

I’d better be one hell of a clearly fabulous knitter when I tackle it.

You will be! Smile

Oh, dear. My tower is presently going mad with the whole "risks to children" thing.

We've all had to put in forms for official police record checks, and we've all had to apply for what they call a "Working With Children Check", which gives you a card like a drivers license, photo and all, to prove that you are safe to work with children.

As one wag called it, "my license to be a paedophile!".

Absolutely barmy. And it only lasts 2 years and then we have to do the whole joyous form and passport photo nonsense all over again.

After all that effort, our tower captain is considering bringing his grandchildren along as new recruits!

Ah, you have succumbed to the Lure of the Manos! It's all lovely yarn, and that's a nice green.

I take it you also succumbed to the Lure of the Pandora. Well, almost everyone who comes to the shop is acclaimed her Newest Bestest Friend. Though Gerard did post a photo on Facebook a couple of days ago of her gone *flop* on a nice cool floor...

Marion, are you going to lure Robin down to Knit Night at iKnit after the book signing next week? I will aid and abet, although I don't often go to Knit Night (I daren't risk the lure of anything except that lovely Paton's cotton, which is so marvellous for so many things).

I will do my best at luring her!

I'm getting very good at resisting the temptations of everything in IKnit, after almost five years now of Very Reduced Income. Though I did buy another ball of TARDIS-sock-yarn last week. (And then got home and realised I didn't actually need it because a) the next commission for the socks has cried off temporarily due to her own Reduced Income Situation, and b) it turns out I have three balls of the original Regia still in stock. Oops.)

....er, should I mention that they have some new cotton yarns in?

Yes, I'm puzzled about the numbers. The only number on my tag is what the I Knit lady supported me in thinking was the dye lot--and when I rang up because I realised I needed two MORE skeins I called it the dye lot # to the fellow on the phone and he didn't correct me either. Maybe since they're hand spun and kettle dyed . . . the name/dye lot changes really fast? But the Ceres is certainly what mine LOOKS like.

Okay, wait a minute, error on the page. BOTH the top two yarns in the right hand corner of the 'clasica' page are called Ceres. Maybe the brown is really Ceres and mine is something else? In which case there is no dye lot so you better buy what you want FAST. Smile Which I've just done. The tag DOES tell you to buy as much as you want for your project all together.

Anyone else who's dealt with high profile yarn have any insight here?

I've just done a little snooping online, and discovered what I suspected: Manos doesn't have dye lots. This doesn't surprise me too much, considering it's kettle-dyed yarn, and every skein comes out slightly different even if it was in the same pot, so dye lot numbers wouldn't end up meaning that much anyway.

Malabrigo is hand-dyed. Buyers are warned to buy as much as they'll need at once, because each bag (and I don't know how many hanks come in a bag ordered by a shop) is a different dye lot. This does make it tough to just buy it because you like it, when you don't have a specific project in mind.

There are ten skeins per bag, and even within one bag there's plenty of color variation, so you're usually smart to knit alternating two different balls of yarn if you're doing a big Malabrigo project. I love Malabrigo worsted for mittens, hats, and scarves though, so I wouldn't feel too bad about buying one or two skeins for my stash even if I didn't have a particular project in mind yet.

(P.S. Jodi, did'ja see that? Serial comma just for you, dear.)

I made two hats (two because the first one was too big, stretchy stitch) as a refresher project using Malabrigo worsted, and loved it. And I've downloaded four or five free hat patterns, so I suspect that more skeins will be finding their way to my closet before winter. Smile

@Diane in MN: you might try washing it and throwing it in the dryer... that will surely make any huge hat shrink, and in fact I used to do that on purpose. You knit (or crochet) two stands of yarn, one wool and one really fuzzy mohair, into a big hat which you then throw in the washer with hot/cold water and then throw in the dryer. The wool "shrinks" (wool does not really shrink, it just sort of sticks to itself like velcro) but the mohair does not, so you get this really great FUZZY hat that almost looks like fur.

"Too much yarn"? I don't understand this concept... but my husband sure does...

Malabrigo felts really easily, so if she tries this she may end up with a small bowl instead of a hat. Small warning.

It wasn't HUGE, just loose enough to slip down my forehead. It will be given away come fall, so it's not a waste.

My husband also understands "too much yarn". Bummer!

Yes, I would have guessed this because of the wonderful way it spliced. Smile

This is why, when I make my brother the hat he asked for, it will be made out of something else. I don't think hand-washing wool is part of his laundry repertoire.

This is also why I very seldom knit with real wool, except possibly Superwash. I find recipients (especially mothers of small children) are far more grateful for items that don't have to be carefully washed by hand, but can be thrown into the washing-machine!

And no, I don't understand the concept of too much wool, but I have a horrible feeling my husband does.....

I suppose that your brother and mine couldn't be long-lost relations? Don't ask me to describe what happened to the lovely cashmere jumper I bought my brother, years ago, before I realised that he doesn't read washing labels... *shudders*
