I always want my knitting when I'm supposed to be sitting still and listening. My hands like to move! And knitting is productive! This is totally what attracts me to small projects like socks and mitts; they can go anywhere.

Hee. You missed your knitting. :D :D :D

Sigh. I did go *into* this admitting that knitting appealed to me, you know.

SIGH.

I am ONLY GOING TO LEAVE MYSELF A *FEW* SPARE MINUTES, JUST LONG ENOUGH TO BUY *ONE PAIR OF KNITTING NEEDLES*. (What worries me is that I'll be so panic-stricken about meeting my new teacher that I'll feel the need to do something . . . COMFORTING. REALLY FAST.)

Hey, you're another Brit. I thought the 'not wet rain' was a British national (loony) character thing. Smile Smile

*grin*

I may have been known to describe the weather as 'yes, it's that horrible WET rain' - don't think I've used it the other way around though.....

*bets that Robin comes home with some yarn(probably pink...)*

And OI! What do you mean loony?
*looks indignant!!*

*mutters about pots and kettles ;)*

*hides*

Not sure that I've heard that one before, but I do like the idea of some rain not being wet! Smile
But as for the "wrong type" of wind, snow, leaves, etc - we've all heard of those, usually as an excuse for our public transport system to grind to a halt!

I'd lay odds that along with the needles, and some more wool, you also come away with a another knitting bag! As predicted on this forum, by more than one of us! Very Happy Very Happy The stash grows!!

I’ve told you about Peter’s ‘it’s not wet rain’, yes?

When we lived in the Seattle area, we had a lot of experience of "not wet rain"--essentially wet air. Unless a major storm system came in, you could truthfully assert that it rained a lot but you didn't get wet.

That being said, Because he used to be out there in blizzards and hailstorms doesn’t say I’m a slacker, it says that he’s a fruit loop wouldn't get any argument from me. The Minnesota climate runs to extremes, especially during gardening season; the rain is very wet indeed, and you want to be indoors watching the thunderstorms play out and listening for tornado warnings on the weather radio. Smile

Here's hoping the roses flourish and the new voice teacher is terrific.

Maybe it's a southern thing? Or a "being active outside and brooking no distraction from mere weather" sort of thing? Growing up spending more time outside riding over the Downs than not, it took saturating rain to keep me out of the saddle... sometimes Wink
I thought everyone spoke of 'not wet rain'! Again the blog enlightens Very Happy

Though 'not wet rain' isn't something I've ever heard, I could picture it immediately. We use the Misting-Sprinkling-Drizzling continuum to discuss that sort of thing in these parts, saving 'rain' for the really wet stuff. With so much of it to describe, it makes sense to be specific. The number of words used locally for every minute variation in the frozen version could put Eskimos to shame...

I am unspeakably jealous of everyone with garden flowers. It hit forty degrees today and I'm giddy with delight, but sobered by the knowledge that we've got another three weeks before it's safe to start seeds--and at least another eight before anything tender can go into the ground. I haven't even seen the ground since the beginning of December, and I don't expect my snowdrops for another month. Sad

I know it's not time yet, but I'm starting to build that crazy endless-winter angst again...what if I wait to order and everything I want is sold out?! What if I had more winter mortality than I thought?! If I wait and see surely everything I might want will be sold out. The siren song of the catalog beckons....I can always put them somewhere, right? Smile

They had a plant stand. What did they want to go and have a plant stand for? So I bought two clematis and one of those little fiery-red dogwoods which in my defense I’ve wanted for a long time. . . .

It is a well know fact that no gardener can visit an open garden without buying something from whatever plant stand is there. Smile

As for the Hardy Plant Society shows, well... I see they've got one coming up near here next weekend. I won't go, I swear I won't, gnnnhhh

Surely "not wet rain" is a Northern Ireland thing? My husband and his siblings are apt to say that it's a lovely, soft day when I consider there's a chilly drizzle and I do not want to go out!

What it is to have supportive friends like you and Southdowner... I think there are far too many enablers of various kinds on this forum. Smile

A lovely soft day! Yes, I know that one too! --Can't remember where though. Haven't hung out with the Irish much, so far as I know, and it's not one of Peter's phrases. But--yes. Definitely. Lovely soft day means that the air is frelling SATURATED and you merely don't FEEL the water hammering into you as rain till you're SOAKED. Smile

Totally. Comprehensively. Yes. Smile

(BTW, I wish to point out that SQUARES of knitting are ALSO HIGHLY PORTABLE. Speaking of various enablings.)
