I'm from Fort Worth and would be interested as long as it's after December 15. I don't knit or crochet, but I would happily bake something.

AFTER Christmas, maybe? I'd love to come from Denton, but I might be out of town till Christmas Day. My pound cake has a good reputation, if it's going to be a home-baked affair ...

Oh, well, pound cake is not muffins (though I wonder how it would turn out if I baked it in muffin tins??) I do crochet, however...

Anybody else in this neck of the woods?

I just got Peg and am 1/3 of the way through. By ENORMOUS discipline I turned out the light last night around midnight.

My Christmas break is approximately Dec. 8 - Jan. 9 and I don't think I have anything important going on then, so pretty much any time would work for me. I have a few friends from home who are similarly free pretty much whenever, and a friend from school who might be able to come, but only until the 20th.

As far as location goes, I was thinking of talking to my local yarn store to see if we could have it there, but it's not very big and it sounds like it would be pretty far out of the way for those of you who don't live in Duncanville - which is everybody in this thread but me. So is there anywhere more... central that might be a better location?

Maybe somewhere in Arlington or Hurst/Euless/Bedford? That'd be sort of halfway between Duncanville and Denton.

Maybe we should find a bookstore, so we can push McKinley books on passersby and encourage the managers to order more books, as in Baltimore yesterday. Up in Roanoke is a charming little indie bookstore called Book Carriage, with an attached coffee counter and several tables. But that's coming way north of any midpoint. It's just that I don't know anything about other stores more central.

Any other forum members in the DFW metroplex? Or do we need to rustle up some local fresh converts?

Well, I have a friend or two who might be able to come along, depending on the day. But it does seem we could use some more warm bodies.

I would love to join y'all, but I've got finals and during the Christmas break I'm working. Besides, I live in Harris county outside of Houston city limits. And a three to four hour drive can get boring very easily. Smile And not to sound stupid, but what does PRC mean? Embarassed The answer is probably right in front of mine. Oh, and once the library gets Pegasus in, I'm requesting that heavenly treat! Very Happy

Welcome to the forum, Robyn Sue!

PRC stands for Pegasus Release Celebration. Robin's publisher is sending publicity materials and a free copy of Pegasus to any group of three or more people who want to get together at a coffee shop, library, bookstore, etc in order to eat baked goods and talk Robin books.

Thanks. Ooh, I would love to come. But school comes first. And then work so that I have money to spend. And pay my parents back for this semester. Coffee and baked goodies. Yum. Coffee, baked goodies AND Robin's books = Heaven on Earth for the Bookworms. Very Happy

Livvispatula, there just seem to be the three of us online. If you have some local friends who can come, then I think Duncanville is fine. I'm not to be trusted very far in a yarn store, but that's just my problem, I guess! Wink I have a cousin who is far less to be trusted than I am in such a store, but alas, she is in Houston and as the previous writer stated, that's way too far. Some folks don't understand that you can drive seven hours and STILL be in Texas.

If we have to have it before Jan 1 to be official, then I vote for any day between Dec 27 and 30.

Yep, January 1 is the cutoff date. Smile Had to draw the line somewhere, so that Robin could get the signed book drawing off her to-do list.

Let me know via email when you have location/date/time set!

I second the motion for between December 27 and 30, and Duncanville is fine.

Well, I sent Livvi a "private message" suggesting that we go with her original plan, but she doesn't seem to have picked it up, and the time's getting tight. I am leaving for Boston next Wednesday, getting back Christmas day. If we don't hear any more on the Duncanville plan, should I go to the indy bookstore in Roanoke on this coming Monday, and see if they will have us? Or I can just keep in touch with the forum while I am out of state, and see if anything develops.

I don't want to hijack the original proposal. But neither do I want the event to not happen. Hmmmm...

Of Dec 27-30, do you have a preferred day and time of day?

I'd prefer afternoon, just because it's a bit of a drive, whichever location we choose. The bookstore would be good, because we might be able to get some new converts, as it were, but whatever y'all want to do. I'm in the midst of finals, but next Thursday I'm free and clear for any planning assistance required.

Sorry, y'all, I just finished finals and then had to deal with the drama of my brother getting appendicitis. *headdesk* Luckily he's fine, and mom can get off work to go stay with him. I lent her my copy of Chalice to read while she sits with him Very Happy

Anyway, as far as I know my friends here are available the 27-30th. I have nothing else going on this month, unless one of my other brothers decides to saw off his foot or something, so I'm cool with anything. I thiiiink my friend who's a vet tech is more likely to be off on Wednesdays, meaning that the 29th would be best, but I'll have to ask her.

As far as location, it mostly depends on where I can convince my friends to be willing to drive. If you don't mind coming to Duncanville I can check around and see who's willing to take us. I'd feel kinda awkward having it in a big store like a Borders or Barnes and Noble if it's only like half a dozen of us.

Wow! What a fraught December! Best wishes to your brother (and your mom.)

The afternoon of the 29th in Duncanville would be fine with me (or any other of those days).

That one group (Kansas City?) seemed to do great in a big store with only 4 folks, but I know what you mean about feeling a bit abashed. Anyway, I'm not picky. But Black Bear indicates that she needs to know soonest.

Yes she does! Smile Dec. 15 at latest.

And we had a group in a big B&N with only 5 people. It certainly isn't a problem--we just checked with the store manager to make sure it was OK to bring food in, then pushed tables together in the cafe and had our party. Smile

Okay, here's what I've got: Wednesday, December 29th, at the Borders in Arlington, some time in the afternoon. Does that work for y'all?

I'm bringing chocolate muffins with cheesecake filling, and possibly another kind; two of my friends are bringing cupcakes made from cake mix or something like that and I dunno about the third.

Sounds great! Can I get a street address? or is there only the one in Arlington?
I'll bring...something. Depending on what sort of baking mood I'm in. Possibly some sort of fruit bread, though if I'm feeling lazy it'll be cookies...I know it's meant to be cake, but it sounds like we've got that covered.

Does 11 AM work? Or would you rather have it later?

Also - do y'all forum people have any extra folks coming? I'm trying to decide how many muffins to make.

My reading buddy is unable to come, so it will just be me. I'm pretty flexible about times; I can come at 11, or later if it is better for megamite.

I've been having internet difficulties, so haven't been able to post a reply (hopefully my internet will hold on long enough for this one to go through), but I am coming! I'm running terribly late, but should be there by 11:30 or so.

I enjoyed it muchly! Pictures are on Fileden -- the group conversing (and knitting),
Meg's mince pies,
Livvi's Pegasus-inspired scarf,
a poster-winner hiding,
and the whole group, (minus the photographer, of course). Pictures were handheld in not very much light, so please excuse any blurriness.

Livvi, thanks so much for organizing it and bringing such a nice group.

Meg, I hope your connectivity problems are solved. And I want to confirm the piecrust recipe:
1-2/3 cup flour, 2 sticks butter processid into crumbs
add one egg
add cold water by teaspoons till it gloms up into a ball
chill (how long?) and roll out
Does it make one shell? A top and bottom crust?

It was yummy, as were the chocolate chip cheesecake cupcakes, the fudge, and the cheese, all. (And I'm sure the pumpkin cupcakes were delicious too, but I did show some discipline!)
