I live in Duncanville. Anyone up for a knitting/crocheting/Pegasus party with muffins? Sometime during Christmas break?

AFTER Christmas, maybe? I'd love to come from Denton, but I might be out of town till Christmas Day. My pound cake has a good reputation, if it's going to be a home-baked affair ...

Oh, well, pound cake is not muffins (though I wonder how it would turn out if I baked it in muffin tins??) I do crochet, however...
Anybody else in this neck of the woods?
I just got Peg and am 1/3 of the way through. By ENORMOUS discipline I turned out the light last night around midnight.

Maybe we should find a bookstore, so we can push McKinley books on passersby and encourage the managers to order more books, as in Baltimore yesterday. Up in Roanoke is a charming little indie bookstore called Book Carriage, with an attached coffee counter and several tables. But that's coming way north of any midpoint. It's just that I don't know anything about other stores more central.

Any other forum members in the DFW metroplex? Or do we need to rustle up some local fresh converts?

Livvispatula, there just seem to be the three of us online. If you have some local friends who can come, then I think Duncanville is fine. I'm not to be trusted very far in a yarn store, but that's just my problem, I guess! I have a cousin who is far less to be trusted than I am in such a store, but alas, she is in Houston and as the previous writer stated, that's way too far. Some folks don't understand that you can drive seven hours and STILL be in Texas.
If we have to have it before Jan 1 to be official, then I vote for any day between Dec 27 and 30.

Well, I sent Livvi a "private message" suggesting that we go with her original plan, but she doesn't seem to have picked it up, and the time's getting tight. I am leaving for Boston next Wednesday, getting back Christmas day. If we don't hear any more on the Duncanville plan, should I go to the indy bookstore in Roanoke on this coming Monday, and see if they will have us? Or I can just keep in touch with the forum while I am out of state, and see if anything develops.
I don't want to hijack the original proposal. But neither do I want the event to not happen. Hmmmm...
Of Dec 27-30, do you have a preferred day and time of day?

Sorry, y'all, I just finished finals and then had to deal with the drama of my brother getting appendicitis. *headdesk* Luckily he's fine, and mom can get off work to go stay with him. I lent her my copy of Chalice to read while she sits with him
Anyway, as far as I know my friends here are available the 27-30th. I have nothing else going on this month, unless one of my other brothers decides to saw off his foot or something, so I'm cool with anything. I thiiiink my friend who's a vet tech is more likely to be off on Wednesdays, meaning that the 29th would be best, but I'll have to ask her.
As far as location, it mostly depends on where I can convince my friends to be willing to drive. If you don't mind coming to Duncanville I can check around and see who's willing to take us. I'd feel kinda awkward having it in a big store like a Borders or Barnes and Noble if it's only like half a dozen of us.

Wow! What a fraught December! Best wishes to your brother (and your mom.)
The afternoon of the 29th in Duncanville would be fine with me (or any other of those days).
That one group (Kansas City?) seemed to do great in a big store with only 4 folks, but I know what you mean about feeling a bit abashed. Anyway, I'm not picky. But Black Bear indicates that she needs to know soonest.

My reading buddy is unable to come, so it will just be me. I'm pretty flexible about times; I can come at 11, or later if it is better for megamite.

I enjoyed it muchly! Pictures are on Fileden -- the group conversing (and knitting),
Meg's mince pies,
Livvi's Pegasus-inspired scarf,
a poster-winner hiding,
and the whole group, (minus the photographer, of course). Pictures were handheld in not very much light, so please excuse any blurriness.
Livvi, thanks so much for organizing it and bringing such a nice group.
Meg, I hope your connectivity problems are solved. And I want to confirm the piecrust recipe:
1-2/3 cup flour, 2 sticks butter processid into crumbs
add one egg
add cold water by teaspoons till it gloms up into a ball
chill (how long?) and roll out
Does it make one shell? A top and bottom crust?
It was yummy, as were the chocolate chip cheesecake cupcakes, the fudge, and the cheese, all. (And I'm sure the pumpkin cupcakes were delicious too, but I did show some discipline!)
