Very cool Black Bear. Soon as I get home I'm ready to start.

Now, what kind of cake to bake??? Well, for Robin one usually thinks chocolate. I feel a fit of creativity coming on. Thanks for a marvelous idea.

Glad you approve! I fully support creative baking as part of this plan. I really do hope we get some fun meet-ups going; it seemed silly for the forum to not mark Pegasus' arrival in some way, plus I figured what better opportunity for Robin to pick up a few new readers than when there's a shiny new book on the shelf and cake in the offering... Smile

Well, I'm totally game; I love meeting people who like Robin McKinley's books. They tend to be interesting and compassionate people. Is there anyone within a few hours of Central New York who would be interested? (that would probably include north-central Pennsylvania and any part of NY east of the Catskills.) I'm in Ithaca.

Alternatively, I might make the trek to the big apple if there is one down there.

This sounds amazing! I don't know too many other people interested in fantasy, so this would be a great opportunity to meet others who share my interest.

Anyone in Brooklyn, NY interested in meeting on a Sunday?

You might want to double post this over in Talk, Esther and cmarschner! Just start a thread called "Brooklyn PRC?" or "Central NY PRC?" and see what kind of response you get--it'll be good to see at a glance where people might be getting together instead of paging back to this blog post thread (which will be buried in a couple days time...)

Fantastic, jh! If you've got opinions on where, toss them out on the Talk thread; I think KathyS is also interested, and she lives 5 minutes from me. So we've got at least 3 of us! Smile

Bonnie, you should absolutely feel free arrange something! I'm not clear on whether the US edition is being marketed in Canada or not (Robin, do you know?) So we may have some issues with the promotional material being sent over the border, I've got a question in to Robin's e-marketer regarding this. But there's no reason you shouldn't post over in Talk that you're interested in doing something in your city--there may be more Canadians lurking on the forum who'll answer, or there may be folks who aren't on the forum but would be interested in getting together. We'll post a list of all open-to-the-public PRCs on the blog once you all have some dates and times set, so that fans who may not read the forum can find out what's going on!

Esther and cmarschner, please note we have a Brooklyn/Manhattan PRC now posted in the Talk forum--someone with a book club is hosting and wants to throw it open to anyone who'd like to come!

I am really unhappy about the fact that no one outside the US can do this. You can ORDER US books from/to pretty much anywhere--as Blue Rose has just been an example of. Let me talk to a couple of people. I could maybe provide books for the first x number of not-US cake parties.

As soon as the UK edition is published, I'm definitely up for arranging a PEGParty in London. I will bake the Infinitely Special Brownies and a Spectacular Apple Cake. Meanwhile...shall look forward to seeing what the USA gets up to.

I think the noble county of Kent, in the UK, would be a good place for a PEGASUS & Cake celebration. I shall see what I can do - I know that there is at least one other forum member in the county and we could perhaps invite our equivalents of 'all Rabbit's Friends and Relations'. Smile

I shall put something up in 'Talk'.

all right. i get it. i think it's a lovely idea, and a lovely way to promote interest in the book, to get to meet fellow mckinleyphiles, and EAT CAKE all at the same time.

but to be honest, i am a card-carrying, screamingly far in (-to my cave, as opposed to the far left or far right of political extremists) and tattooed. introvert. while i'm sure you're all nice people, i don't WANT to get together with you to talk about the books--it's what i like about the blog and the forum. i'm here, and you're there, and i can ignore you or pay attention to you as much as i want without being rude.

so i'm inviting all other introverts to a special introvert party. i'm hosting it, (does that mean i get a free book?) but you don't have to rsvp. you don't have to even go anywhere, because it's at your place and my place and wherever else introvert mckinley fans are hiding out. bring your own cake, your book, and whatever else you'd like (something lovely to drink, like champagne?). you won't have to worry about what you're wearing, or how to get there without asking directions, or talk to anyone when you get there. you can just enjoy the heck out of your little book-lined cave. and of Pegasus, OF COURSE. and please, feel free to come and go, or stay, completely as you please.

we're easy here.

I like this idea; it'll allow those of us who don't live near anybody else, or can't travel, or are too shy to deal with real live people, or all of the above (me), to enjoy a virtual celebration.

ETA: And I preordered my copy of Pegasus because I can't count on the local stores to get it on time, so I should have it in a few days of the release date. [gets excited because that's next week Smile ]

Nope. Smile

We're easy here, too! Obviously there are lots of reasons a person might not want to meet up IRL; no one's saying you should feel pressured, or like you are somehow a terrible person if you don't want to get involved. This is just a bonus, something extra that hopefully does something good for Robin (helps generate interest in a book release, which in turn helps pay for the attic floor at third house and keeps the hellhounds in chicken and gravy) and does something good for Robin's fans who *would* like to meet and talk--about Pegasus, or the weather, or the price of tea in Uzbekistan--and eat cake together. Ideally, any gathering in a public place like a bookstore or library might also pull in some folks who may never have heard of Robin, but do like fantasy books, friendly people and cake. Double-super-bonus!

That said, there is nothing like a Party of One, you and your much-awaited copy of Pegasus, with a glass of champagne and a cake of one's own. Smile Smile I expect this is what 95% of our blog readers will be doing--but the other 5%, have at it!

We may be too late for part of this, Black Bear, I think someone got there before us. We'll just have to stick to books and cake-eating....mmmm! Smile

Oh, what a fun idea! I shall organize a Vancouver, BC party (whether or not it's possible to get promotional stuff in Canada or not). Not much lead time, but hey, spontaneity is a good thing!

I went ahead and pre-ordered mine for publication day delivery because my local store (part of a large chain) has not gotten Robin's previous books in on time.

I would love to organize a PRC party here, but I don't know if there's anyone else in my corner of NW Florida.
