For some very strange reason, I have become addicted to 'Masterchef'. A couple of things work against this - I usually don't watch commercial television at all because I can't bear the ads; I despise the move to 'reality' tv as opposed to well-produced drama; I'm not a cook and am generally not at all interested in cooking shows.
But despite all that, there I am 7.30pm, 6 nights a week - utterly hooked! I don't know why. I can see through all the product placement, the contrivances to stir up interest, the drawn out announcements (e.g. "And the winner is...." long pause, several camera shots of various contestants looking nervous, then cut to ad break - grr!) I've become engaged by the contestants and the sheer silliness of the whole concept, I suppose.
One really good thing has come out of it. We've had a hard disk recorder for two years now, and I've never come to terms with being able to use it for recording, and it's mainly just been a DVD player. However, the constant, utterly puerile advertisments crammed endlessly into 'Masterchef' have driven me to learn, and I'm now very happily timeshift recording every night, and even timer recording other programs.

The Husband, the Younger Daughter and I are watching the second season of Warehouse 13 on the Siffy, um, Scifi channel. Younger Daughter was so taken with the first two episodes that I bought her the first season DVDs, which I think she's just finished. It's a lot of fun, and the steampunk thing is pretty cool.
One of these days I'll have to show her some Nero Wolfe episodes with Saul Rubinek in, just so she can see what else he's done.
Younger Daughter and I have also been watching Doctor Who repeats on BBCAmerica, a few at a time.
The Husband and I are also watching the new season of Leverage (and there's another Nero Wolfe connection).
Oh, I love Babylon 5 and Crusade. I wonder if my old videotapes are still watchable?

I found Matt Smith grew on me, though I still adore Tennant... in everything I've seen from him. Also, I keep noticing various characters wearing bow ties in other shows and having Smith's doctor say that in my head....

Yes, I agree. David Tennant remains the outstanding Doctor, as far as I'm concerned.

Is not Time Burton's Alice like both Alice in Wonderland and Alice Through the Looking Glass mixed together?
