It's the day after the day before.

I do hope Peter's mystery ailment turns out to be so easily managed as making him drink more. (Easily, haha, I know.) Glad to hear he's feeling better today.

As for the copyright thing--I recently found myself in an online argument with someone who thought those of us waiting several months for Netflix to get the latest Doctor Who instead of watching it illegally online were such squares. He seriously didn't seem able to perceive the difference between illegal downloads and rental DVDs because it didn't occur to him at first that Netflix passes some of our money on to everyone who made that DVD possible. It's quite a frustrating merry-go-round of an argument to be involved in. (I won though.)

Oh, good for you! Gold stars!

There are individuals in the writing community I would like to put on a ducking stool because they helped perpetrate the notion that anything on the internet should be free. (Going so far as to blithely declare that no one could make a living from writing fiction anyway, so we fiction writers shouldn't complain about internet theft, and just get busy making a living some other way.)

Ye gods, what a day. At least by now (almost midnight my time zone) the party across the way should have ended and you are, I hope, still peacefully asleep and not yet awake.

Very good to hear that it's probably not TIA; the kind of heat you're describing is likely to be part of the problem and additional fluids and 'lytes should help. Maybe also a fan?

Best wishes on all fronts.

I'm also glad to hear that it's apparently not TIA. I hope he feels better quickly. And may you get some good sleep over the next few days.

In high school I had a good friend who was (is) also a professional musician who had several talks in my general vicinity (not necessarily with me) about copyright issues. It really opened my eyes to the potential consequences of our actions for those around us, particularly artists, authors, etc. I can't say that I always know what the rules/laws are to follow them, but I do my best and try to use common sense when I'm not sure.

That being said, I lived for a few years in a country where copyright laws mostly didn't exist as far as I could tell, which was a trip. I still did my best to honor them as much as possible, but it led to a lot of interesting conversations with friends from that country.

I do hope you get results - and good results - from all those blood tests, so that you find out what is the matter, and the treatment of it can begin. The anxiety of not knowing must be so wearing on you both!

Indeed. The only time I saw one of the nurses, at the hospital department where I used to go, annoyed was when she was talking on the phone - apparently to some other nurse. She was discussing a patient, and wanted them to share medical information about this patient, so that the patient could get the best treatment possible - but apparently whoever she was talking to wasn't interested in doing that.

Thank you for that link; what a brilliant idea of Jason Robert Brown, and what an informative and clear way of explaining the issue. I'm going to make my children read it and forward it to a lot of people who either need to read it or have children who need to read it.

(I particularly liked this sentence:

arguing with teenagers is a zero-sum game, as I've learned from my experience on both ends of the argument. You insist on your right to think you know everything and do whatever you want, and anyone who corrects you or tries to educate you otherwise is the enemy

It resonates (loudly and with bells) with my current situation.)

(And just so I don't sound too self-righteous, I have to confess that I've been too impatient to wait for Doctor Who, so I have been downloading illegally. I justify it because I do buy the DVDs when they come out, so I will pay for these episodes. Eventually. I stand chastened.)

I'm keeping all fingers and toes crossed for Peter, and sending good healing vibes to you both.

I think I'll have to be more awake to discuss copyright violation and the internet, but I do know illegal downloading is a Bad Thing, and I don't do it. The Daughters refrain from doing so, as far as I can tell.

This bit right here though, it makes a whole lot of sense to me:

"just because technology makes doing a bad thing easier doesn't mean it's suddenly not a bad thing"

There's also the whole worry about illegal downloading sites having bad icky virusy stuff on them, which would be enough to keep me away even if it wasn't, you know, illegal...

I read the Wikipedia article about TIA, and had to say that the brief glimpse we get of Peter through the pages of the blog made him seem an unlikely starter for the list of risks/causes.
Here's hoping it's just dehydration which is easily treatable (especially when accompanied by wifely threats of violence!)

Thank you for the link about the copyright issues. We had a big session at work today about the moral rights of authors within the copyright context, and this really resonated. I will circulate it to my fellow Project Directors who will certainly appreciate it.

Hope today's dental adventure wasn't too traumatizing, and that you and Peter are both feeling like getting back to normal... Good thought that heat/dehydration might be part of the issue, maybe you should get Peter one of these! Smile

That's assuming, of course, that the scheme gets rolled out as planned. Bringing in very large IT projects on schedule have not been government strong points!

I hope you have a wonderful night's sleep tonight, that Peter is so hydrated he practically oozes, and that PEG II decides to behave from now on. Smile

I'm so very glad to hear that Peter is doing better. Dehydration is so quick to pounce as a person gets older, and the weather is NOT helping. Hope your night is restful and the dentist has lots of distracting horse stories.

After my mother was bedfast, we went to the ER once because she had in a few hours become almost completely non-responsive. They diagnosed low sodium. After just a few hours on the saline IV, she was just fine again (well, relatively fine). The body becomes inefficient at absorbing the minerals it needs as it ages, so you have to be more careful about providing plenty. At least, if Peter has low rather than high BP, you don't walk a tightrope between enough sodium and too much. Hope all is going well.

They think NO ONE can make a living from fiction? Do those people not think that Stephen King or John Grisham, to name just a couple of obvious bestsellers, don't make a living? What planet do they live on????

I'm glad to know Peter's episode was apparently not a TIA. Dehydration and electrolyte imbalances and low blood sugar might all be proximate causes of problems, but of course one wants to know the reason for any of those conditions. I hope the doctors can get to the bottom of things with the current round of tests.

Thanks for the link to the copyright discussion. I don't know Jason Robert Brown's work, but I give him credit for a lot of patience, as well as a good set of arguments. I cringe when I hear a phrase like "Information wants to be free!". Information doesn't care; cheapskates want it to be free. I hope he made an impression on that young woman.

Four-inch heels, perfect hair and lacquered faces. I’m glad I was young a long time ago.

That goes for me, too. Yipes!

Hope the medicinal champagne did its work well.

Well, lots of information IS free. I don't have to pay anyone anything to inform you that July 4th, 1776 was the day the Declaration of Independence was signed, for example. Or to tell you that bicycles have two wheels, unlike cars, tricycles, or unicycles. On the other hand, someone writing a bicycle manual or a poem about the birth of the US would probably want some sort of reimbursement for it. Or as Jason Brown pointed out, if they don't want reimbursement, they should at least leave open the option for others to receive it.

Glad that it isn't TIA and new sorts of direness. Hope that everything gets better.
As for the copyright thing... just wow. I'm not quite sure if this is heartening or disheartening. Informative, for sure. Thanks for posting the link.
