That's AMAZING! I was thinking of something like our local Garden and Flower Show, which fits in a Community College athletics building.

What a beautiful show--worth tired feet to attend! Thanks for the pictures--I really liked the lavender display. I love that color in a garden.

I'm glad you like the pictures. Mind you, images in two dimensions can never give one the full sensory impact of the real plants, can they. But as said above, at least you don't have to cope with the aching feet this way, either. I was glad to sit down, on the train going home. :)

Well, if you fancy a quick trip south of Paris, you have the notable Cayeux Iris people. They sell some lovely ones and they also do mail-order. I'm contemplating getting some of theirs myself.

The photos ALMOST make me sorry I didn't go. :) (There's always Hampton Court . . . ) I am for example extremely fond of delphiniums (yes, I know, with the rest of the cottage-garden world :)) and standing next to a delphinium forest is heavenly. (Mine are for some reason doing unusually well this year--SO FAR--well except for the two that didn't make it through the winter--never mind, EXCUSE TO BUY MORE.)

I *think* it's Antique (http://classicroses.co.uk/products/roses/antique/), but unfortunately my reference system isn't playing properly. I've put a query on the PB forum, to see if anyone can confirm one way or another.

How are you keeping the slugs away from your delphiniums? And are the surviving ones in the ground or in pots? I've got a 'Black Knight' growing in a pot because that's the only way I can keep the accursed molluscs at bay.

My neighbors grew delphiniums one year and, as I passed them coming home one evening, I was transfixed with wonder to see a sphinx moth* sipping nectar from the blossoms. I'd never seen one before, though I'd heard of them.

*They are big moths -- though rather drably colored -- and they HOVER, just like a hummingbird. Weird and wonderful.

Oh, Antique! Yes, I grew her at the old house. The way the pink bleeds into the white varies A LOT from rose to rose and I wasn't happy with mine--too much like Handel (everyone's favourite rose but mine).

COPPER RINGS. The wonder gadget. The thing about copper is slugs don't like it, so it's not JUST a physical barrier like plastic rings are, which you have to position precisely or the slugs get in anyway like rabbits under a fence. And by the time your delphs or whatever get big enough to flop out over the top they should be big enough not to be slugs' fave any more. Well, it works a treat for me. I do find with something I grow against a wall (dahlias more than delphs) it's a good idea to put a copper strip (ie unringed ring) against the wall.
