I don't believe it could be the fifth season of Angel, because Cordy wasn't around for it. It's probably fourth?

(I've only really watched the first two because the little I've seen of three, four, five indicates whine + angst = wangst, especially on Wesley's part. I really LIKED what they did with Wes in seasons one and two, and though I know Joss Whedon is a fan of screwing with characters, but nevertheless . . . .)

I just consulted the God of the Wiki and it informs me that Charisma Carpenter had a son in 2003. 2003 was season 4 of Angel so she would have been pregnant while filming it. So, yes, she may well have been pregnant!

(Hooray for Wikipedia!)

And while I'm here on Joss Whedon . . . I was talking about Dr Horrible with my brothers yesterday and it occurs to me that as I believe I found out about it through this blog, you're to thank for the Dr Horrible mania that has seized my household the last couple years. My little brothers (aged 16, 12, and almost-6) know most of the songs cold (the youngest isn't allowed to hear some, ah, less appropriate bits) and it's quite a thing to have myself and the two older ones singing the parts on "A Man's Gotta Do". Very Happy

DON'T FORGET TO BE AWESOME!

SUPERNATURAL has replaced STARGATE: SG1 as my most beloved of TV shows. But I would not recommend it to you. If you stopped partway through ANGEL because it was too dark for you, you will not make it through SUPERNATURAL. If you wanted to try it, I don't know about over there, but here the boxed sets of the first few seasons are super cheap. So if you couldn't take it, at least you wouldn't be out a lot of money.

Snow dragon = AWESOME. Next time we get a big snow, I'm going to knit a pair of full mittens (none of mine have fingers!) and make something cool. Maybe.

What an incredible snow creature! We want snow badly here in New Orleans and so far, only freezing weather and clear blue skies..

And on the 'Angel' front.. we're having a sort of unofficial mini-reunion down here so if you have any particular questions about the show I might be able to find out for you.. Charisma (Cordy) is down here with her cinematographer husband for something like the next 18 months, since he is shooting 18 months of projects back to back, and the camera operator I worked with (in the camera department on Angel) just moved to town to work with them again two days ago...

I did just work with her on the Stallone film last spring, The Expendables, and she was as sweet and thoughtful as ever- I always love to see good people persist in being lovely, given how skewed the film industry tends to be..

Alas, knitted mittens would soak through before you could make much of a snow critter. You'd want to put a waterproof shell over them so your fingers wouldn't freeze.

Having been an inpatient a few times, I've been rather shocked at how LITTLE supervision patients get. One could go for hours dead and no one would notice.

My father and my husband both had hospital experiences that bear this out. Hospitals never have enough nurses to see to everything that needs to be done. Anyone who goes in should have a healthy person with them as much as possible to keep an eye on things and get help if necessary.

Very nifty snowcritter--also nifty dog-and-camera work to get such clear shots. My boy might have wanted to pee on such a thing, but he'd even more likely want to eat it. Eating snow is turning into his new favorite thing, even when he's freezing his feet off doing it.

But the statistic that made my eyes stand out on stalks is ‘walking declined from 87 hours per year in 1975 to 57 hours in 2005.’ Eighty-seven? Fifty-seven?^^^^ Errggghmmmph. I get claustrophobia/insomnia/twitchy just thinking about it.^^^^^

I'd think anyone would get more than 57 hours a year just crossing the parking lot/walking around the office/vacuuming the house/going to the market/etc. This is a frightening statistic.

Oh, that is just gorgeous! I especially like its smile... it just looks so happy...

I do love that snow critter, some serious sculpting talent there.

I've always had a soft spot for Richard Dean Anderson since his McGyver days.

I am *really* hoping you have some form of surge protection where your modem (and any other computer type appliances) are plugged in to the wall

That kind of brownout can do damage to critical components and if it goes on for long enough you might find the modem may not wake up one day - which would be *very* sad and no doubt frustrating.

And the snow critter was totally made of AWESOME - thanks for fighting so hard to get the pic and to load it up for us Smile

What a wonderful snow critter!

And what a nuisance for you having to reboot your computer every time the broadband goes off. Our broadband can be on-and-offish, but if it doesn't come back on it's own, flicking the on-off switch* does the trick and our computers just pick it up as soon as it's working again.

* On the old router this was a major job; on this one you can just do the wall plug!

That's a very impressive dragon, but looking at the smile on its face I don't trust it one bit..

And apropos of exercise, I think we should have mobile gyms available on trains!

Snow dragon ... Yes! Thank you for your careful photography.

Given how important your computer is to you, maybe you could see your way clear to get a box which will automatically switch you to battery power when the power goes out. When I was au courant they were called APS (Alternate power supply).

That doesn't help with the broadband coming and going, but it is good for your equipment, and you are less likely to suffer a tragic loss ...

An uninterruptible power supply (UPS) (close!)

http://pcsupport.about.com/od/componentprofiles/p/ups_backup .htm

APC is one of the top 2 brands of UPS in the world

http://www.apcc.com/products/family/index.cfm?id=220 - thats a surge protector - no battery backup but will help minimise damage

http://www.apcc.com/products/family/index.cfm?id=21

Gives you a list of entry level UPS that have limited battery power - its designed for you to do a controlled shutdown of programs and the hardware rather than it just die when the power dies.

You can get big fancy UPS to run for longer but they are very expensive and not designed as an alternative power supply.

Any one who lives in an area where there are lots of storms or dodgy quality electricity should have *something* - I have a surge protector (these are designed to sacrifice themselves and save your equipment in event of something like a lightning strike)

The broadband may very well be going down because the near end (in the house) hardware lost power. In this case an APS/UPS might actually keep the connection up as well as the computer. A thing to remember about UPS devices is that most are battery based and that they have to be on all the time (or they are unlikely to be on when you need them). The battery will eventually cease to hold a charge and need replaced. This is usually required every four or five years. I recently priced a replacement battery for a 1200VA UPS and it was around 50 USD as compared to the initial purchase price of around 200 USD of the unit as a whole. Not a lot of money but part of the price and SAF ("messing about factor") of maintaining such a thing.

What a very fine snow creature! (Though I have to snicker at the hellhounds' reaction - that is certainly the downside of having boy dogs. Smile )

Totally awesome snow dragon - thank you for posting!

I have stopped believing random statistics such as :‘walking declined from 87 hours per year in 1975 to 57 hours in 2005.’ We are given no context at all, so there is no way of telling how meaningful it is.
