Here's a similar movie-type story-I had a riding teammate in college who was mounting when the horse spooked and took off. She landed face first in manure. My coach would repeat this story every time I was mounting sloppily (I have a tendency to lean too far forward while mounting and was courting having something like that happen to me).

Well I navigated around the boston.com web site and apparently the wsay it works is you have to email the link to an email address so if anyone is really interested in looking at the horse photos I can email the link to them-if there is a way to email the link to the blog someone would have to tell me how to do that-sorry, i did not grow up wired !
This has turned out to be too mcuh trouble!

Hello, I'm new to the board. I thought this should be my first thread, because I'm such a horse-girl. Very Happy

This is the first winter I've had my horse in my own backyard, and winter horse-keeping is tough!! But so worth it. Who knew that frozen horse-poopies are the worst to deal with? Even worse than walked-through, rained-on poopies. Razz

Hello Allimarie! Welcome!

Your own horse - that sounds wonderful! (Sighs wistfully)

Thanks!!

Yeah, she's actually small horse/big pony. I haven't ever measured her, though when she was young we did the "string-test" and she was supposed to get to 15 hands. I have my doubts, though. Thankfully, I'm only 5'3". Very Happy

Welcome, Allimarie, it's good to see you here. I'm sure you'll find many fellow horsepeople on the forum to share stories (and pictures) with.

Is she your avatar? It's a beautiful horse. Or pony - but who cares, if you can ride her! There are certain advantages to being short; I'm 1,55 myself (or so I thought - long - and boring - story alert), I don't know how these measures translate - but I'm sure all I'd need to do to be able to ride a big pony would be to cease to be fat. ("all" - ha!)

Hello, and thanks! Yeah, she's my avatar: Cadenza. Do many people on this forum ride?

Also, do people talk about Robin's books much on this forum? I just re-read the Damar books (for the billionth time) because I made my S.O. read them (I've tried to get him to read them for years, but then again I've recommended hundreds of books for him to read; it took MY re-reading them to finally put my foot down and demand that he read them. He finished Hero and is partially into Sword. I told him not to read Sword until he had a long stretch of time to devote to it -- in my opinion it should be read in as few sittings as possible -- but, alas, he didn't listen and now it's been several days and he's only on page 67 -- I checked. Wow, that was digressive). I'm just asking because I'm wondering if, when talking about other things, like horses, people often make comparisons to book-related things. Now that I think of it, though, I suppose that's silly.

I don't think I'm making sense anymore. Very Happy

I think you are making perfect sense, Allimarie! Smile

This is a very cosy place, as you will find. Check the forum rules, if you haven't already; but the atmosphere is very relaxed and friendly, and I'm sure you'll like it here!

As for horses - there are those who ride, and those who wish they did... (I've ridden many years ago, for instance). But the place is full of animal-lovers.

Thanks! Poopsicles, indeed! My mission of late is to catch them as soon as they fall, before they become a permanent addition to the paddock's topography.

I'm new as well. I also ride, and study Dressage at a therapeutic riding program. I find that this helps me with Fibromyalgia. I ride a pigheaded 14 hands Appaloosa pony. We have done well together as a team bringing in several blue ribbons, and a reserve champion award at a state show. I have ridden some rather tall horses in this program, the tallest being 18 hands. I am content with shorter horses, even if they are pigheaded. I ride my current mount with double Dressage whips, as my legs are so weak these days due to the Fibromyalgia. index.php?t=getfile&id=137&private=0

I would just like to announce (to people who will understand) that I rode a horse nicknamed "Sun" at my second-ever-in-the-UK-lesson and, because he was a dun, immediately started calling him "Sungold" in my head.
Not because he had any like qualities at all, really, but just to indulge myself.
I went home and told my husband, but he lost interest quite quickly in the entire *well, it was just like in The Blue Sword but...only...*
So I thought I would tell you. Smile

Well, I've just moved to the UK (from California), so it took me awhile to find somewhere to ride. I've been riding, in general, for about ten years now.. It has been difficult to find somewhere near Manchester that is also bus-friendly as we don't have a car right now...
But, yes, I'll post pictures as they happen!

Have fun on your Sungold. Yes, we understand. Well, I understand, and I've never ridden a horse in my life, nor have any intention of doing so in the future, but I've always enjoyed reading about them.

The film is one of my favourites - and most certainly my most favourite horse-movie:

It just might be the best horse film ever. Smile

Any other contenders?

What do you think?

On horse movies, I'm kinda partial to The Black Stallion.

I knew the kid who starred in it; we went to church with him and my aunt married into his family. I've been in their living room and the little horse statue from the movie is just sitting in a curio cabinet. When I was a little girl, I got him to autograph a bunch of his photos for my friends. He doesn't act now, but works on a ranch in real life. It was also just a good movie.

For my riding lessons its "keep posting just keep posting, kill your inner thighs," while my body is thinking, "they kill kill kill and want to die die die." "OK now get off the horse and [attempt] to walk". "Exercise is a goood thing so do so before you ride", he he, oh boy...
It's all fun and good though, you become a more solid rider—and as a bonus get killer outer and inner thighs. Smile

They were on page 2, actually - though I enjoyed the sea-gull bathing pics on page 3, too. Smile The farm cat Flossie was adorable, of course! (Awww!) 30 years old matriarch - certainly still looking good - and I didn't even know horses got that old.

Thankyou I took HEAPS and havent had time to upload more, but I have more LOL

Flossie was quite delightful, and very pleased to find someone to pay attention to her, and posed with great skill for the camera.

All the arabs at that farm live long lives - one stallion died about 26 from liver failure, Naadel who was the premier stallion was 30+ when he died as well.

Shaaltarah is my favourite mare, she was the dam of my gelding that I owned for about 3 years, and she throws the most amazing personality and HUGE foals - my boy topped out at 16.1 - which is pretty big for an arab anyway but mum was 15 h and dad only 14.1 Smile

No most unfortunately I do not own horses but ride them allot. I ride at a friends place, she has three mares—personally I prefer the boys—and take lessons there also.
She has one quarter-horse and two thoroughbreds, all of which are mares—the quarter-horse is black with white blaze and the two thoroughbreds are brown with black socks—mains and tails are black also.
I do not have any photos of them but they are all lovely.
My favorite kind of horses are drafts—the war-horse type.
This previous summer I assisted in teaching horsemanship lessons at a summer camp, and rode some pretty fantastic horses—all summer long most every day, it was really wonderful.
I have the space to own horses, and funds to buy one, but the feed for a horse is too much, especially at this date and time.

Great photos Blue Rose.
