Easter flowers
. . . and we briefly had ten ringers this morning*, although one of them is Cordelia who only rings call changes, and one of them had to go sing in the choir, and one of them only turns out for high days and holidays and is a bit rusty. But we had all eight bells going, including a quick scamper through Grandsire Triples.
And then I went to the newsagent and they were all out of Green & Black’s mint chocolate. Catastrophe. I may just about survive if the whole foods and yurts shop has any when they reopen on Tuesday . . . this would happen on a long weekend, it’s like dogs only ever need stitches on weekends . . . but they’re flaky about supply, as the crunchy-granola contingent always is.** How could I have let this happen??!???***
But that provides my excuse for having lost my head . . . just a trifle . . . at the florist’s. I bought a hydrangea. You go to a florist for cut flowers! A nice bunch of roses! They last a week† and then they’re compost! The occasional house plant is permitted! What’s she doing selling potted hydrangeas?!?
(Trust me, it won’t stay this little for long.)
I bought a hydrangea. Well, it’s very pretty. And pink.†† And the Nice Flower Lady keeps hurling slightly past it flowers at me. I don’t want her to stop because I hardly have to buy anything any more!††† And I’ve wanted a hydrangea, but I was planning on spending hours pouring over catalogues and agonising first.
But I’ll do this anyway. I still want a lace-cap. http://www.crocus.co.uk/plants/_/shrubs/classid.3981/
So then I’ll have two hydrangeas.

* This will have been Vicky at home last week with a list of phone numbers and her Most Persuasive Manner. Well done Vicky.
** What is it about being One with the Planet that makes you a feckless twit? It’s not always the shop–our local eco-friendly outlet is run by someone who could, you know, do something else–but the provisioners are frequently nightmares. It’s almost enough to make me eat Twinkies. Almost.
*** Speaking of flaky.
† If you’re lucky
†† Naturally. But I also bought a yellow begonia.
(Note also windowsill geranium going for it. And that’s another begonia I bought a few weeks ago. . . .)
††† It’s okay, I still need to buy something that will last after Wednesday, which is about as long as her throw-aways survive.
