More tomorrow. I’m starting to get dizzy. . .

Steady, there! :) These pictures are utterly fabulous, what an incredible garden. What flavor of rose is that on the fountain edge, do you know?

I think it’s Raubritter, but I admit I didn’t check.

These photos are amazing! Does the garden smell as good as it looks?

Comment by Robin

YES. :) And a lot of lavender too.

WOW.
[that goes for all of these pictures, but 'twould be rather annoying of me to comment on each, I think, as that would only make more work for you, which is the very last thing I want]

Just… wow.

Thanks for posting these!

One can only imagine owning places like this (and the amount of money it would take to keep them up is probably unimaginable), but it’s lovely to get to visit them. But I have rarely seen actual gardeners at work in public gardens, at least in the quantity you’d think would be necessary to keep everything looking perfect–you have to wonder when they pull the weeds, deadhead the flowers, etc. etc. I could spend six hours a day working in my borders (around here, that would mean pulling weeds) and they would still never look like that. Except maybe for 5 minutes.

I really do need to think about putting in a manageable rose planting. Maybe next year, if I get all the front borders in shape this summer . . .

I am at least sane enough to realise I would NOT want a garden like Mottisfont. But one of the charms of a lot of big public gardens over here–famous gardens–is that you DO see people working in them. Indeed you find something you want to ask about you look around for a gardener. I don’t think I’ve ever been to Mottisfont or Wisley or the Royal National Rose Garden for example, without saying hi to a few people hip deep in the borders.

ROSES! YESSSSS! Of course you want roses!!!

No, this isn’t the type of garden I would want to own: visiting is just right.

****ROSES! YESSSSS! Of course you want roses!!!****

Well, yes. Not on the program for this summer, but maybe next spring . . .

spring? Over here the advice is better to plant in autumn, give them the winter to settle in. But our winters are not your winters.

For a minute, before I scrolled back and read the previous posts, I thought this was one of yours and couldn’t figure out how you’d gotten your garden to look so spacious…
