Itty Bitty Tech Stuff
My New Blog Master has suggested Blogmom as friendlier. It does sound a little less Dungeons and Dragons.
She’s also turned off the you-have-to-log-in-to-comment thing (or if she hasn’t, tell me, because it hasn’t worked). But neither of us quite gets what the deal is: it’s a one shot, like signing in to lj. I think. It’s not like you have to pay money and have your own blog. The point of it is that it’s another spam/troll discourager. So we’ll leave it off for now, but the moment I start getting bombed, it goes on, and it stays on. Okay? I hope this is okay.

Dear Robin,
I hate logging onto things, because I am a paranoid person who dislikes leaving traces of herself all over the internet and being easy to track. Don’t leave comments, you could say. But I like leaving comments. So I did Register. I gave my user name, Susan from Athens, and my precious e-mail and it said that it would send me a password. I waited for two hours. No password. I thought, did I get something wrong. Tried again. No, this name and this e-mail are already registered, it says. Twenty-four hours later, I still haven’t got my registration password. No it hasn’t got entagled in my spam sorter, I check that out several times daily. Remember, I’m paranoid. I’m not complaining to you, or moaning in general, just happy I can still comment, and happier yet that you are happy in your new electronic home.
Susan from Athens,
still unable to login here, although she has -tried to- register.
Should be working now. See

It did
Hmm, well, it let me ask to have a login of my very own, and promised to email me a password, but it lies. (I have WordPress blogs on my site, but they require different log-in sessions. I tried those logins, anyway, just in case. Nada. I also tried that other thing with the food. Also nada. So it’s a one shot deal for *this* blog, but not all WordPress blogs, like it is with LJ.)
I don’t think there’d be any problem if the thing that promises to send passwords sent them. I’ve been waiting for mine 24 hours now! *weeps*
-jmeadows
Well now there’s a fancy new name/email thing. Neat! Of course, I immediately put in my first name, but if you like this way, I will make it say my regular user name.
-jmeadows (signing _just in case_)
I’ve had the same experience as Susan and JMeadows, maybe the gnomes that send the emails with the passwords out are on strike or something? Could be they’re annoyed by us all tramping through with our muddy feet…;-)
OH. and the hellhounds are so SWEET in that photo. An absolute picture of innocence!!
Hi, I just wanted to let you know that for those of us who use RSS readers, your new blog cuts off the post after about 5 lines. If you like it that, that’s perfectly fine and I can just click through to your blog page to read the whole post. But, if you don’t care, it’s much more convenient to read the whole thing in the RSS reader.
Thanks!
Gann
Ditto for me re the hellhound pics.
I love all the videos posted today. I “met” Tom Lehrer in 1957 when my first husband – a Harvard grad – gave copies of an early TL record (LP) as presents to his groomsmen at our wedding.
Flanders and Swan are great. I’m in the process of getting a CD with The Gas Man Cometh, Sounding Brass, etc on it. I haven’t heard them in years and am sure they only get better with age.
I trust you and the hellhounds are doing all right enough today.
Thanks for being there and keeping in touch.
Hmm.. I think I miss having icons, which I never thought was a big deal before–but it made it easier to remember who was talking! :)
I’ll try registering with WordPress, but if someone’s already got my username I’ll be all crabby.
The Akismet plug-in, in my experience, is pretty good at controlling the spammers.
It worked! It worked!
(Well, if this comes through, it worked.)
Anyway, it did send me a password this time, instead of saying, No, Go Away.
The hellhounds are beautiful. I never could quite picture them. The soulful eyes are pretty impressive, and I bet THOSE haven’t changed just because they’re not puppies anymore.
Judy in NY (just in case)
I’m all registered and everything. The password came right away, so it must be fixed.
I don’t mind, I just used the same ID and password as LJ so I don’t have to remember as much.
It’s working now – I did get to register and sign in, although I don’t see the point of registering when it still asks you for a name anyway…
Anyway, nice to know the new blog is working.
Re: having icons. I think we can do this now in WordPress 2.5. I’m on the Recipe blog team and will experiment over there and then get back to Robin/Blogmom on what’s involved in people having their own icons. I miss them to, I confess.
Well . . . yes. A lot of you have such good ones. :)
